Save the Children Norway as preferred partner for Ministry of Foreign affairs in Norway on education in emergencies, has obtained considerable grants from the Ministry in 2013 for the Syria crisis. To follow up the quality aspects of the grants, SCN is looking for a Technical Advisor on Education in Emergencies to be based in the region. It is a temporary position for 2014, with a possibility for extension. Location to be decided and will be outside Syria.
Tasks:• Ensure that SCN’s education portfolio inside Syria is implemented based on high quality programs by providing technical advice (TA)• Ensure that Child protection issues, included in the education portfolio, is implemented based on high quality programs by providing technical advice (TA)• Assess additional opportunities to support education for children affected by the Syria-crisis• The focus of the TA will be on EiE in general, teacher training, psychosocial support, curriculum, school management as well as preparedness• Ensure that the grants that SCN has obtained through Norwegian MFA are implemented according to standard• Ensure that the education sector inside Syria keeps high standard both when it comes to planning and implementation• Ensure that the experience from the Education programs inside Syria is well documented.• Ensure that the education sector is prioritized in the humanitarian response with adequate funding• Ensure good cooperation with the Education Cluster in Syria
Qualifications:• Master Degree in Education or Social Sciences• Strong analytical capability• Experience from the Middle East region with preference on the Syrian context• Experience and capability to see the education sector as an integrated part of other sectors especially protection and psychosocial support• Experience in working with other actors eg INGOs/NGOs local authorities in developing and implementing education programs• Extensive working-capacity and to maneuver different working-processes with great deal of flexibility when it comes to travel and work-place• Cultural sensitive and with a great deal of adaption working in complicated context
