SUMMARY
As Global Internet Policy Director this position develops, manages and oversees Internews Network’s global internet and telecommunications programs. The position also serves as a liaison and advisor to country-specific programs, assigning support and technical assistance as appropriate. The Director works in consultation with the Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Managers/Directors, senior country staff, the Global Development Unit, the Program Development Unit and other Internews organizations and external partners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:
Oversee the management and overall programmatic development of the project.Identify and develop new strategic partnerships and activities in target countries.Oversee sub-grants to partner organizations, including budgets, work plans and reporting.Coordinate communications and workflow among staff and partners.Participate in meetings and facilitate communication with primary donor.Prepare proposals/reports/budgets for primary donor (write, edit, proof, revise).Oversee design, implementation and management of the project’s M&E framework.Research and develop new partnerships and funding opportunities.Represent organization at conferences and events as needed.Carry out research as assigned and in support of ongoing projects and new initiatives.Promote greater collaboration with relevant organizations in the Internet Freedom sectorImplement activities related to communication with the public and news media on program activities and accomplishments, as well as public relations.Lead writing of additional proposals and reports as requested.

5+ years programmatic experience or relevant advanced degreeExtensive grant proposal writing experience, and proven text-editing proficiencyLanguage proficiency a significant asset; other regional language skills helpfulExperience in developing or supporting programsExperience with legal/regulatory issues and/or policy advocacy Understanding of the Internet Freedom sector, global internet access initiativesExperience managing research teamsKnowledge of campaigns and advocacy initiatives
Previous work experience with government (e.g. USAID, DRL, EC) and private foundation funded programs and projectsDemonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiateExcellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listeningProven ability to set priorities and manage time effectivelyProven analytical and problem-solving abilityProven ability to work both independently and as an effective team memberProven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
