For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.
MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.
MDM-F-France has been working in Palestine since 1995. The general goal of MDM-F is to improve the physical and mental health of the Palestinian populations in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip through developing local health professionals’ abilities in specialised fields.Established in Gaza since February 2002, MDM-F has implemented long-term programmes to improve the quality of healthcare services provided to the population of the Gaza Strip, thus limiting the impact of the conflict on their health. The approach adopted is one of supporting the national health system by upgrading the medical facilities (through training, equipment, etc.) to ensure access to quality care services. MDM-F also intends to address the needs of the communities by enhancing health education and sensitization.
In 2013, MDM-F-France will continue reinforcing Emergency preparedness at primary health care and community levels in Middle Area governorate. MDM-F will also implement a project on Sexual and Reproductive health with a local partner in order to improve the access to family planning services and empower women’s rights.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
You will ensure Palestine MdM coordination team, led by a General Coordinator, coordinates programs in Gaza and Nablus. The Gaza Field Coordinator is member of the Country Coordination Team, composed as such: Administrative coordinator, Field Coordinator Nablus, Field Coordinator Gaza and General coordinator.
The Field coordinator works in close collaboration with the Deputy Field coordinator in Gaza and the General coordinator in Jerusalem. He is responsible for overall management of the Gaza program and supervising and guiding the Gaza coordination team.
The Gaza Coordinator reports directly to the General Coordinator.
More specifically s/he is in charge of: - Management and Monitoring of existing programs - Internal and external communication - Team security and coordination in conjunction with the Base logistician in Gaza and General coordinator- Manage human resources - Financial, administrative and logistics management of the Gaza base: supervise the work carried out by the Administrator and the Base logistician in cooperation with the Administrative coordinator in Jerusalem.- General context follow-up

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:
You will be committed to MdM’s values as an organisation and be motivated by its non-statutory, Not-For-Profit model.
1.Professional experience
- Experience in a similar position
- Experience of project management abroad is essential
- Experience of team management is essential.
- Experience in negotiations and relations with local partners and authorities in a difficult legal, administrative and political context (very important)
- Field experience under potentially hazardous safety conditions
2.Required Skills
- Ability to classify and to manage priorities
- Organisational skills, rigor
- Excellent knowledge of Windows environment (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point...)
- Good management and communication qualities
- Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives
- Skills in writing proposals
- English (spoken - written - read) + French or Arabic
3.Appreciated qualifications
- Experience in projects funded by international donors
- Legal experience or knowledge
Knowledge of the Arab or Muslim world
Languages: Fluent English (oral and written) mandatory / Arab an asset
