CAFOD, one of the UK’s leading international aid agencies, is currently looking for a Governance Programme Officer based in Freetown, Sierra Leone. CAFOD’s work in Sierra Leone includes programmes in livelihoods and Governance. The organization works closely with partner organisations to combat poverty and injustice and to build a strong and dynamic civil society.
Job Profile
As part of its strategic priorities in the coming years, CAFOD aims at enabling poor women and men in both countries to influence positive changes in structures, policies and practices that affect them. The organization further aims at increasing the capacity of its partners to carry out advocacy using evidence based approaches, based on research and engagement with local communities and strengthening the voice of the Catholic Church in both countries to improve natural resource and participatory governance for the benefit of poor and marginalised people and communities.
Your role
The Governance Programme Officer will support the effective designing and implementation of CAFOD’s Governance programmes in Sierra Leone and Liberia. The scope of the post includes the following:
• Developing the governance programme and delivering programme cycle management (pcm) support within agreed budget.
• Taking responsibility for monitoring the use of programme funds in the governance programme and ensuring they are properly accounted for.
• Carrying out some task supervision but no formal line management responsibilities.
• Managing governance partners and ensuring they are contributing to CAFOD’s governance work as defined in the Liberia/Sierra Leone Country Strategic Plan.
• Leading the coordination of Action for Better Governance initiatives in Mano River and link up the learning within CAFOD.
Your profile
You will have experience in governance programme development and implementation, and in Project Cycle Management, with the ability to work in difficult environments and under pressure. You will need to be fluent (written and spoken) in English and confident in dealing with local organisations in an empowering way, including Church and NGO partners.
