PURPOSE:
The challenge in education is not simply to get children into school, but also to improve the overall quality and ethos of schooling and address threats to participation. If both quality and access are tackled, children who are enrolled in primary school are likely to continue, complete the full cycle and achieve expected learning outcomes and successfully transition to secondary school. In Yemen, UNICEF is using the child friendly schools approach to improve quality and access.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordination with national/local authorities, state institutions, local civil society and other relevant actors to ensure that the targeted schools meet minimum standards for Child Friendly Schools• Coordination of different sectors at field level to promote multisectoral collaboration. • Facilitating and provide technical support in the development of training and resource materials for the training of teachers, school principals and supervisors on CFS;• Ensuring regular inspection of schools by MoE and Education offices in targeted governorates and districts.• Through appropriate participatory and community-based approaches ensure that each school has carried out a school self-assessment and a school development plan.• Through field visits, ensure appropriate attention to priority cross-cutting issues such as water and sanitation, protection, nutrition, social mobilisation and communication in the targeted 263 Child Friendly Schools;• Ensuring the application of appropriate standards for CFS are met in the targeted Child Friendly schools;• Ensuring support to the Early Childhood Education Activities in targeted schools for ages 3-6 by training teachers/ caregivers.• Conduct field visits, guide field teams in applying the child friendly school standards, collect relevant data and information and contribute to section and office reports.• Providing detailed reports at the end of Mission trips• Any other duty assigned by supervisor or Head of section.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Education; Primary Education, Economics, Social Sciences, or a field(s) relevant to international development assistance. • One year of professional work experience in the field of Education. Background/ familiarity with education in an asset.• Fluency in English and Arabic (both written and verbal) is required.
