Summary: The System Engineer is an end-user client-facing position that ensures that the Information Technology network and system operations in Pact’s Washington DC office are secure and reliable. The System Engineer provides regular remote support to country offices and may travel there when appropriate. In cases of emergency, the System Engineer is expected to work on an on-call basis.

Network engineering and system administration Working with Senior Engineer, the System Engineer will:

• Provide IT infrastructure support, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, performing systems upgrades and analysis, disaster recovery plans

• Administer the system by reviewing logs, optimizing disk space allocation, managing bandwidth speed and other network functions

• Manage system backups including tape swapping and prep for off-site storage and retrieval

• Install and support wireless and wired infrastructure and virtual and physical hardware

• Provide support and administration of Office365

• Manage Symantec product installation, support and administration

• Manage Sonicwall configuration, support and administration

• Perform other duties as assigned

End user support:

• Along with other IT staff, provides domestic and international technical support to maintain a superior level of customer service. Occasionally handles off-hours emergencies.

• Manages Active Directory and handles user e-mail and network account creation, changes and deletion

• Sets up, images and configures end user laptops.

• Maintains helpdesk portal, including prioritizing and responding to open tickets

IT Departmental administration Working with IT Director and Senior Engineer:

• Track international and domestic asset, software and licensing inventory

• Procure hardware and software for international and domestic offices

• Assist fellow IT staff members as necessary

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and at least 6 years of relevant experience (or equivalent)Ability to travel internationally, sometimes with short notice

Preference for:

• Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills

• Strong orientation toward customer satisfaction

• Certifications in Microsoft technologies

Skills and Abilities:

Technical skills

• Virtualization technology skills (required), Microsoft Hyper-V experience (preferred)

• Microsoft Datacenter Edition Operating Systems experience

• Experience supporting SharePoint, CRM, and other Microsoft back-office tools

• Active Directory, Office 365, Outlook experience (required)

• MS Office, MS Project, and other desktop tools

• Symantec End-Point Protection (preferred), SonicWall (preferred) and BackupExec (required)

• PC hardware configuration

• Network configuration and optimization

Project Management

• Strong planning and time management skills

• Ability to problem-solve difficult issues

• Ability to multitask with ease, adapting to frequently changing priorities

Leadership

• Ability to sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with internal colleagues and contacts in donor and peer organizations

• Strong understanding of Pact’s strategy and how tasks contribute to the greater good

• Consistently works within internal process and procedures

• Strong interpersonal and team building skills
