Position Description:

FHI360 seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Bilingual Technical Writer for an upcoming HIV/AIDS surveillance and program evaluation project in Cote d’Ivoire. The project will increase the capacity of PEPFAR partners, local organizations and the government of Cote d’Ivoire to collect and use data for the design and management of HIV/AIDS programs in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Technical Writer will develop, write, and edit material for reports, protocols, articles and related technical and administrative publications. S/he will provide technical assistance to local organizations and the ministry of health for the development of various publications including protocols and articles for publications. Position will be based in Abidjan.

The Bilingual Technical Writer will:

Provides oversight and management of the writing, editing, and production of publicationsAssists project staff and partners in the preparation, proofreading, editing, and assembling of publications including protocols and articlesAssists the project team as needed in the development and implementation of processes, procedures and special projectsObserves project, developmental and experimental activities to determine operating procedures and details Works with FHI 360 staff (U.S. and field offices), with global technical experts, local stakeholders and with funder to determine gaps in knowledge and practiceServes as final reader to ensure that publications support the organization and the funder’s research and programs and are in compliance with editorial and ethical standardsProvides support on science writing by: mentoring staff and partners on writing skills; offering training on science writing for staff and partnersApplies advanced knowledge of principles, concepts and industry practices and standards in the area of developing and writing material for technical publications

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree or international equivalent in technical communication, French, English, or related fieldRequires a minimum of 5-8 years of developing, writing, and editing materials for technical publicationsDemonstrated English and French language skills (FS-4 level or higher), preferably fluent in both.Requires a minimum of 3 years of managing the publication processPrior experience with Microsoft Office Suite requiredPrior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO)Excellent oral and written communication skillsExcellent organizational and analytical skillsAbility to analyze and interpret information/data, and prepare documentsAbility to influence and collaborate with others
