Sierra Leone: Surgeon with obstetric skills for a programme in Sierra Leone
Doctors with Africa CUAMM is the first NGO in the healthcare area officially recognized in Italy. Founded in 1950 with the aim of training doctors to work in developing countries, actually CUAMM is working in Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda implementing healthcare projects in partnership with local governments and institutions.
PROJECT TITLE: Capacity building for improving access to quality obstetric, neonatal and child care services in Pujehun District
JOB LOCATION: Sierra Leone, Pujehun Hospital and District
START DATE: January-February 2013
DURATION: 12 months
REQUIREMENTS
- Citizenship of a State of the European Union (requirement essential for administrative issues)- University Degree in Medicine and Surgery with further specialisation in Surgery- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English- Long-lasting experience in general surgery and obstetric surgery- Previous experience in Developing Countries
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project aims at - guaranteeing quality obstetric, neonatal and child services in Pujehun Hospital and health centres- supporting the overall management of hospital services- improving technical skills of health staff
KEY DUTIES
The surgeon will be responsible of quality of obstetrics, surgical and gynaecological services The specific tasks will be:- assure the good functioning of Obstetrics and Maternity Ward, checking ward organization, staff availability, protocols application and health information system in order to improve management- guarantee the good functioning of general and emergency surgery ward and operating theatre, assessing safety and setting protocols and procedures- collaborate with other doctors to assure the good functioning of hospital in all its components- collaborate to Continuing Medical Education of health staff of Maternity Ward and of the 5 BEMONC centres of Pujehun District- collaborate to on the job training of hospital personnel and obstetric or medicine students coming from various school of the country
