Doctors with Africa CUAMM is the first NGO in the healthcare area officially recognized in Italy. Founded in 1950 with the aim of training doctors to work in developing countries, actually CUAMM is working in Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda implementing healthcare projects in partnership with local governments and institutions.

JOB LOCATION: Uganda, Matany Hospital

PROJECT TITLE: Ensure Obstetric emergency care and foster MCH services in Matany Hospital

START DATE: January 2013

DURATION: 12 months

REQUIREMENTS
- Citizenship of a State of the European Union (requirement essential for administrative issues)- University Degree in Medicine and Surgery with further specialisation in Surgery- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English- Long-lasting experience in general surgery and obstetric surgery- Previous experience in Developing Countries

KEY DUTIES
Surgeon’s main tasks will be:- management and clinical support to surgery and obstetrics wards, in order to improve ward organization in terms of personnel, materials and equipment utilization- training of ward staff to apply national and international guidelines and standard- support to hospital HIMS- supervision of drugs management in delivery room, surgery and maternity ward- collaboration to activities for continuous improvement of quality of services for mother and newborn health

JOB LOCATION: Sierra Leone, Pujehun Hospital and District

START DATE: January-February 2013

DURATION: 12 months

PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project aims at - guaranteeing quality obstetric, neonatal and child services in Pujehun Hospital and health centres- supporting the overall management of hospital services- improving technical skills of health staff

KEY DUTIES
The surgeon will be responsible of quality of obstetrics, surgical and gynaecological services The specific tasks will be:- assure the good functioning of Obstetrics and Maternity Ward, checking ward organization, staff availability, protocols application and health information system in order to improve management- guarantee the good functioning of general and emergency surgery ward and operating theatre, assessing safety and setting protocols and procedures- collaborate with other doctors to assure the good functioning of hospital in all its components- collaborate to Continuing Medical Education of health staff of Maternity Ward and of the 5 BEMONC centres of Pujehun District- collaborate to on the job training of hospital personnel and obstetric or medicine students coming from various school of the country

To ensure and supervise surgical and obstetric activities in Chiulo Hospital, ensuring emergency general surgery and emergency and elective obstetric surgery servicesTo supervise the management of the hospital departments for surgical inpatients To contribute to the staff training on-the-job To collaborate and supervise data collection, analysis and reporting, with a special focus on obstetric and surgical activities
