The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is currently seeking an intern to work within the Shelter and Settlement Section (SSS) at its Geneva headquarters. The intern will gain practical experience in shelter cluster coordination, website management (SharePoint), and support to country level shelter clusters.

I. About the Shelter and Settlement Section

The Shelter and Settlement Section provides technical support to Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) operations around the world through the delivery of various services including: • Developing strategies, technical guidelines and toolkits • Designing, reviewing and commenting on site selection, physical planning, shelter and other infrastructure • Researching and developing technical specifications for shelter and non-Food Items (NFIs) including tents, plastic sheeting and other shelter related items • Carrying out research and development within the sector • Undertaking technical support missions • Develop and maintain shelter and physical planning training • Deploying physical planning and shelter experts • Supporting the Shelter Cluster at global and country levels

II. Supervision, duties and responsibilities

UNHCR co-leads with IFRC the Shelter Cluster at the global level. There are currently 23 country-level shelter clusters of which eight are led by UNHCR. The intern will provide support to the maintenance of the www.sheltercluster.org website both at global and at country level for clusters led by UNHCR, IFRC or others.

Under the supervision of the Senior Emergency Shelter Coordinator, in close cooperation with other relevant parties involved in the development of www.sheltercluster.org, the incumbent's duties will include some of the following areas: • Assist the Country level Shelter Clusters in setting up a webpage for their cluster, uploading and managing documents on the Shelter Cluster website. • Provide training to the country-level Information Managers and Cluster Coordinators on how to use the website. • Assist the Global Shelter Cluster Support Team in organizing and managing documents on the Shelter Cluster website, including assistance to the Strategic Advisory Group and Working Groups. • Assist the Global Shelter Cluster partners in using the website. • Enhance the partnership with IFRC, IOM, and other country-level shelter cluster leads on the use of the website. • Keep the website updated with the latest versions of documents related to the Cluster Approach, IDPs, Shelter and Settlement. • Liaise with OCHA for the integration of their HumanitarianResponse.Info website with the Shelter Cluster website. • Support the migration of the website. • Assist the Global Shelter Cluster Support Team in organizing meeting and events in Geneva.

III. Qualifications, skills and experience

• University degree, Master is preferable; • High computer literacy. Strong knowledge of MS SharePoint is preferable; • Interest in and exposure to shelter emergency response and humanitarian coordination; • Knowledge of the Humanitarian reform process and the role of the UN System, Red Cross Movement and NGO humanitarian community; • Solid research, writing and analytic skills; • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office; • Ability to work in a multicultural environment; • Excellent writing and editing skills in English; • Working knowledge in French, Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic is an asset; • Demonstrated ability to work independently; • Flexibility, adaptability and a positive attitude.

IV. Salary and conditions of the internship

UNHCR internships are unpaid.

The intern is responsible for his own travel, accommodation, medical insurance, visas, and living expenses.
