Contract Length: 12 months
The role
The Senior logistics manager has responsibility for the oversight and management of logistics activities within Lebanon, for a programme of a predicted size of 35m USD. The post holder is responsible for effectively managing logistics staff, vehicles, assets and relief stocks supply chain as well as distributions to beneficiaries, ensuring effective and accountable logistics support to Save the Children emergency programmes in the country of operation.
The Senior logistics manager will manage the setup, maintenance or scale up of logistics functions and responsibilities and associated staff. He / She will support the Operations Director and other members of the senior management team on the best use of Save the Children’s resources.
The Senior logistics manager will contribute to ensuring that Save the Chi ldren’s commitment to improving quality and accountability in humanitarian work is upheld, through reference to the Sphere Charter, Save the Children Minimum Standards and Code of Conduct, SCI Global Policies and Guidelines, and will endeavour to implement sustainable systems and transfer knowledge and skills to existing staff.
Qualifications and experience
* At least 8 years’ experience in logistics or operations management, preferably in the humanitarian sector.
* Minimum 6 years’ experience of working in the Humanitarian Sector.
* Strong knowledge of the following: procurement, supply chain, warehousing and stock control, transport & fleet management, and distributions.
* Proven ability to think strategically – maintaining control of details while at the same time analyzing the bigger picture.
* Ability to elaborate, analyse, interpret and implement technical policies, regulation s, procedures and guidelines, and apply them practically.
* Experience of analysing and developing budgets in conjunction with programmes and finance
* Problem analysis and solving, decision making skills
* Strong leadership experience – ability to lead and develop a team that is constantly under pressure, including international staff. Ability to delegate.
* Strong capacity building experience – ability to train logistics and non logistics staff on the requirements and processes involved in logistics
* Good communication and influencing skills. Ability to effectively communicate with multi-level personnel as well as suppliers & services providers and their representatives.
* Fluency in written and spoken English
* Highly computer literate, particularly with Excel
* Ability to work independently under minimum supervision. Comfortable to work in tense situations and under pressure, and in a multicultu ral environment
* Understanding and commitment to Save the Children aims, values and principles.
Desirable
* Arabic language skills
* Financial management experience
