SUMMARY
The Director, Budget and Planning will play a critical role in partnering with and advising the senior leadership team in strategic and operations decision-making as Internews continues to enhance its quality programming and build capacity.
The role is expected to be a finance and operations leader, optimizing and strengthening the internal capacity of a well-respected, high-impact international non-profit organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES include the following:
• Lead financial, budget and operational analysis/synthesis and decision-support analysis for executive, senior management and board of directors, including development and implementation of organizational key performance indicators.
o See beyond the numbers, identify trends and new possibilities/opportunities and effectively communicate key data.
• A commitment to mentoring, training and educating programs at all levels that maximize individual and organization goals and objectives.
o Communicate effectively at multiple levels, clarifying opportunities and limitations, articulating the business model, and collaboratively reaching consensus on contentious issues.
• Oversee forecasting methodologies and best practices at the organization, PMU and department level to maximize resources:
o Collaborate with Program Development and PMUs to determine revenue pipeline.
o Design, implement and execute short- and long-term operating and capital budget forecasting processes for the headquarters and field organizations
o Oversee and manage budget aspects of ERP system, Agresso.
o Oversee the headquarters analysis of, project and labor actual and projected expenses against direct program costs to forecast annual indirect overhead rates.
o Establish and implement cross-organizational planning and budgeting processes for strategic alliance with our European partner with goal of maximizing resources of both organizations.
o Optimize use of private and unrestricted funding and budgets.
• Assist, and sometime lead, business strategy initiatives relating to business models, capital structure, NICRA and finance structures, overhead rate and HQ budget and resource management.
• Participate in contract approval and implementation processes for deals that incorporate cost shares, multiple funders, multiple overhead structures, fixed obligation grants or contracts, and use of unrestricted funds.
• [Oversees] Creates/Drafts/Updates all Budget policies and budget materials and communicates them to the organization.
• Coordinate and assist VP Finance & Accounting and Controller to ensure compliance with OMB Circulars A-110, A-122, A-133 and 22 CFR 226.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
o Extensive experience in financial and strategic analysis, financial reporting, cash flow management, budget development and forecasting.
o Knowledge of and experience with federal compliance rules, regulations and standards associated with federal fund and non-profit financial management, such as A-110, A-122, A-133 and 22 CFR 226.
o Knowledge of indirect costs methodologies and rate application.
o Ten years of experience in financial planning and analysis with an international development organization and USG funding.
Education
o MBA highly desirable
o CPA and Accounting degree desirable
Skills
o MS Excel, Word PowerPoint required. Agresso or other ERP preferred.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects while working as part of a team.
