InterWorks LLC is a small company based in Madison, Wisconsin, USA, dedicated to supporting agencies and institutions working in humanitarian assistance, disaster and post-conflict recovery. Our work incorporates a wide range of training and consulting services, generally supporting international disaster management, humanitarian response and related fields. Training services include training needs assessments, design and development of comprehensive training approaches and implementation of training activities on site and online. Our consulting services focus on disaster risk reduction, humanitarian assistance, education in emergencies & early reconstruction, post-conflict assessment and recovery, humanitarian coordination, contingency planning, strategic planning, field security and team-building. Our clients are mainly United Nations and other international organizations, international NGOs, donors and universities, including the University of Wisconsin Disaster Management Center. Opportunity Description
We are seeking one or two people interested in joining our team in Madison, Wisconsin as a Partner (minimum 5 - 10 years experience) or Associate (minimum 3 - 5 years experience). We need people with proven experience in training and consulting projects within the scope of our services described above. Training-related projects require the ability to meet with clients, undertake training needs assessments, design appropriate training approaches, develop all related training materials, manage on-site training logistics, facilitate workshops and evaluate training results. Similarly, consulting projects require meeting with clients to determine needs, develop appropriate work plans and budgets; and undertaking desk or field studies to achieve project objectives. Almost all projects require high quality written reports or similar publications. Note: US Citizenship, US Residency or US work authorization required.
Experience and Competencies Required
• For Associate level, minimum 3-5 years progressive work experience with humanitarian, disaster management and/or disaster/conflict recovery issues.
• For Partner level, minimum 5 - 10 years progressive work experience with humanitarian, disaster management and/or disaster/conflict recovery issues.
• Field experience in Latin America, Africa or Asia.
• Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in international affairs, political science, health, public health, law or other field related to disaster management/humanitarian assistance.
• Expertise in at least one sectoral, technical or cross cutting issue related to disaster management, humanitarian and recovery settings, such as (but not limited to) disaster risk reduction, information management, health, nutrition, food security, public health, engineering, education, livelihood generation, gender, environment and human rights.
• Demonstrated experience designing and implementing training programs; experience in training programs targeted for international humanitarian actors is highly desirable. This includes workshops, simulations, and distance learning approaches.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English); proven ability to communicate effectively with diverse and multicultural audiences.
• Solid interpersonal skills; must be able to manage a variety of external relationships in a cross-cultural professional environment and represent the organization with senior level managers and other policy makers.
• Proposal writing skills with proven record of successful award outcome preferred.
• Demonstrated record of strong coordination and organization skills; candidate must be able to work with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work effectively and accurately with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel and social media applications.
• Working knowledge of Arabic, French or Spanish (spoken and written) desirable.
• Strong ability to think strategically and analytically; a self-starter who manages stress well and is competent in prioritizing.
• Willingness to undertake international travel for assignments ranging from 1 to 4 weeks a several times per year, as needed.
