Position Summary
The Program Associate will support ongoing activities and programs in the Eurasia region related to advancing democracy and human rights. She/he will provide assistance in various aspects of program implementation including research, fundraising, reporting, outreach, logistical and administrative support. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Director for Eurasia programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, development studies, human rights, international law, Russian language, or related fieldMinimum six months related experience or combination of education, training, and experienceStrong ability to communicate effectively in English and Russian, both verbally and in writingProficiency with MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPointStrong knowledge of human rights principles and international mechanisms, and democracy promotionExperience working on issues pertaining to the Eurasia region, particularly Russia and the countries of the former Soviet UnionStrong appreciation of and demonstrated experience in human rights defense workExperience in program management including reporting ability and knowledge of funder account requirementsDemonstrated experience in managing and creating budgetsAbility to collaborate with other and work as an effective team member for the success of shared goals and objectivesAbility to work independently with minimal supervision, and meet all goals and deadlinesAbility to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all timesExperience with freedom of expression and media freedom issues preferred
Some Duties and Responsibilities
Organize program logistics and provide administrative support as necessaryProvide research assistance and data analysis for Eurasia region-related political and social developmentsMonitor news and events in the region pertaining to human rights, democracy and fundamental freedoms, and identify opportunities and challengesContribute to the preparation of reports, proposals, grant proposals, press releases and budgets as requiredAssist in financial management, including preparation of draft budgets and requests for fundsCreate, maintain, update and analyze databases for contacts, vendors and others as assignedAssist in developing and producing programs’ promotional materialAssist with all stages of travel planning and logistical arrangements (i.e. flights, hotel, visa, ground transportation, etc.)Assist with organizing events and meetings related to Freedom House programsSupport proposal writing activities and help identify new donors and partnersSupport outreach on human rights issues concerning the regionAssist with ensuring compliance with Freedom House and donor financial and administrative guidelinesParticipate as a member of the Eurasia team in all action, analysis and advocacy activities pertaining to the regionOther related duties as assigned.
