Turkey: MDM seeks A NURSE (M/F) For Turkey (based in Reyhanli)

Country: Turkey
Closing date: 30 Sep 2013

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations.

MdM currently works in 46 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

Since 15th of March 2011, following the demonstrations in Dera’a and then in the major cities of Syria, the situation has been worsening. Protesters demand the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, the overthrow of his government, and an end to nearly five decades of Ba’ath Party rule.

The conflict between the Syrian army and opposition resulted in massive displacements of populations within the country and, into adjacent countries. International community tries to solve the problem, for the moment however, proposed solutions have failed. In 2012, MdM opened missions in the 3 countries neighboring Syria, namely Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

In Turkey, since the beginning of August 2012, activities in support of a post-operative and rehabilitation center started in Reyhanli. The Center has 80 bad capacities for in-patients but it also provides health care services to out-patients in term of the dressing, physiotherapies, pharmaceutical and dental care and when needed, simple surgery interventions with local anesthesia. The new hospital with 3 surgical units needs to be open in September in Reyhanli and it is planned that the Center becomes a branch of this hospital for post-operative and rehabilitation care for Syrians patients discharge from Turkish and field hospitals inside Syria. MDM has been provided technical assistance to the Center medical staff, but some key elements have still to be improved especially concerning technical support to the nurses’ team.
