Background
The Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) www.msif.org is a London-based international organisation linking the work of more than 85 multiple sclerosis (MS) organisations worldwide.
MSIF has been working with the Arab region since 2008 and in the current strategic period (2012-16) is committed to continuing its efforts to strengthen the growing number of MS organisations and groups in the region, which, in turn, will be better able to meet the needs of people affected by MS.
The Country-focused Capacity Building Programme comes under MSIF’s activities in the Arab region. Its main objective is to build the capacity of three selected MS organisations from the Arab region in their key area(s) of need. MS Friends Society in Palestine (MSPF) is one of the three selected organisations to benefit from the Programme.
Task
An organisational capacity assessment was carried out for MSPF to help identify their key area(s) of need. Strategic planning was identified as one of the key areas of need to be addressed this year.
MSPF does not have a strategic plan in place; it currently plans activities on a predominately ad-hoc and incremental basis. It needs to develop its overarching vision, mission and values and its strategy for the next 2-3 years.
A period of mentoring (mentoring service) to develop the above strategy is planned for MSPF in 2013.
Services
• Preparation, in liaison with the MSIF Secretariat and MSPF staff, of the mentoring service.
• Participation in 1-2 webinar/teleconference calls prior to the start of the mentoring service with the MSIF Secretariat and MSPF staff, call charges to be covered by MSIF.
• Preparation of all relevant materials required during the service.
• Meeting with the MSPF staff at the start of the service to brief and set a timeline for the period.
• Delivery of the mentoring service during the period 1 October - 31 December 2013.
• Participation in around four teleconference calls with the MSIF Secretariat during the service, call charges to be covered by MSIF.
Outputs
• A 2-3 year strategic plan for MSPF (including vision, mission, values, key aims and objectives, areas of focus (projects and activities), timeframes and financial/human resource implications).
