PROGRAM BACKGROUNDInternational Medical Corps has implemented a program in Libya that aims to strengthen the physical rehabilitation services in certain areas of Libya, through upgrading of primary rehabilitation and the development of community and outreach services. The locations are Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi but are subject to change.

JOB SUMMARYThe primary responsibility of the post will be to support the rehabilitation sector capacity building project.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Support the development of Libyan physiotherapist by:
    • Develop training programmes for local physiotherapists
    • Provide on-the-job support
    • Identify any equipment needs
  2. Identify and train local physiotherapists to be trainers
  3. Ensure that families are involved in rehabilitation activities
  4. Ensure all newly operated on persons, particularly amputees, recieve treatment.
  5. Ensure the development of a monitoring and referral system to ensure patients progress is tracked.
  6. Help develop an outreach service for those who cannot get to the Rehabilitation Centres
  7. Supervise physiotherapy activities in the programme.
  8. Identify local physiotherapists to be included on a ward based programme
  9. Ensure that daily exercise routines that patients can implement for themselves are set up.
  10. Ensure that appropriate equipping of rehab centres with basic physiotherapy materials (balls, tables, weights, etc) and equipment.
  11. Work with other support staff (psychologists, social workers), to ensure support groups are developed.
  12. Ensure that on-the-job training for physiotherapists and other technical aides takes place.
  13. Advise and work with the Rehabilitation Programme Coordinator on physiotherapy related issues.
  14. Represent IMC on physiotherapy issues.
  15. Ensure the production of reports and that any lessons learnt can be documented both for internal use and for possible publication.
  16. Ensure smooth liasion with the Ministry of Health, Social Affairs, and training facilities in Libya.

The Physiotherapists will report to IMC Rehabilitation Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS1. Degree in Physiotherapy, minimum of 3-4 years experience2. Experience of rotation/neurology/amputee3. Experience in bio psyhcosocial approach to treatment4. Experience of training, both design and implementation of training programmes.5. Skilled in the prevention of disability.6. CBR/outreach experience an advantage7. Experience of P+O including the appropriate usage of adaptive aids8. NGO experience9. Experience of EC funded programmes10. Experience in the MIddle East/North Africa highly desirable11. Ability to think creatively and problem solve 12. Excellent networking and liaison skills13. Ability to self-direct14. Strong ability to work in a team.15. Ability to work under difficult circumstances.
