Consultant - Photographic Curator, Jerusalem

BACKGROUNDSince its founding UNRWA has produced and collected an audiovisual archive, covering all aspects of the lives and history of Palestine refugees. The photographic curator will be asked to design an exhibition to present a selection of this archive.

The exhibition should be aimed at a wide audience. The archive should be central to the exhibition, but the photos and films would be brought alive by adding to them in a visually powerful and imaginative way. The exhibition should therefore be easily movable and set up, possibly by using projection and interactive monitors, rather than printed images. More details will be made available after an initial screening of the candidates.

To apply, the candidate should present:• A powerful portfolio, showing experience with curating, design and/or artistic experience.• A short concept note with some initial ideas on this exhibition, especially on how to make archival photos taken come alive for a wide contemporary audience.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE• Experience in curating photographic exhibitions, preferably of an archival nature similar to this one. Experience designing publications would be an advantage.• A background in art and photography would be an advantage.• Affinity with Palestine refugees and/or the work of UNRWA.

Individual Fund Raising Manager, Jerusalem

BACKGROUND

The overall goal of the Individual Fund Raising Manager is to lead a pro-active approach to UNRWA’s online fundraising and marketing outreach, resulting in the growth of funds raised through the agency online efforts. He/she will be expected to design and execute activities aimed at exponentially growing the number of online donations and the number of supporters in the global database.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop insightful, creative and effective marketing strategies and tactics aimed at achieving individual fund raising objectives;• Serve as support to UNRWA’s National Committees activities in the field of individual giving. • Develop comprehensive plans to critically analyze the results of digital and offline direct marketing solutions; • Coordinate online strategies with offline marketing strategies;• Design, edit and produce content for direct marketing appeals and campaigns that is consistent with UNRWA's needs and priorities;• Optimize UNRWA’s internet marketing efforts, including development and maintenance of the Private Partnerships section of website, landing pages and search engine marketing;• Create and oversee acquisition and retention strategies using email, direct mail, etc., to increase engagement and donation;• Manage direct mail and email marketing components from concept to execution; • Influence conversion through messaging, promotion, and landing page optimization, maintain consistent content, data and branding across all online marketing; • Manage the planning and buying of paid search and banner advertising as well as initiate and manage online viral initiatives and promotional partnerships; • Manage and execute community management processes (i.e. social media, blogging, etc.); • Develop and execute online giving programme; • Execute select campaigns, paid search and online syndication; • Manage efficient online payment systems; • Create, execute and oversee internet customer and volunteer acquisition efforts; develop and execute Internet acquisition objectives, plans and strategies; • Investigate new technology and enhancements to increase revenue, brand awareness and improve overall customer experience;• Oversee creative development and execution of all initiatives ensuring projects are delivered on time and in budget; • Write and submit monthly development reports for the Chief of Partnerships Division;? Analyze the effectiveness of current online fundraising and marketing activities through analytics and historical giving data and, accordingly, provide direction for individual giving activities;• Assess current online fundraising and marketing tools and vendors against industry standards to continually identify best practices and solution to meet UNRWA’s needs.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Advanced University degree (MA) in business/marketing, communications, social sciences or a related discipline • At least 6 years of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in fund raising online. Direct marketing experience in implementing and managing individual giving and regular giving programmes required;• Proficiency in Arabic and English; • Proven ability to concept, manage, optimize and update an organization's website and to successfully create and execute other online and offline marketing and fundraising efforts; • Proven experience in developing and executing successful direct mail and email campaigns;• Excellent copywriting skills both in Arabic and English; • Experience developing successful social media campaigns.

Communications and Visibility Coordinator, Jerusalem

BACKGROUND In a context of rising poverty and widespread unemployment, UNRWA is implementing a Cash-for-Work Project (CaWP) for the most vulnerable refugees in the West Bank. The project helps beneficiaries cope with economic hardship and loss of livelihoods by providing a subsidy in exchange for low-skilled labour.

CaWP is an emergency project: beneficiaries receive a limited sum of money for their work, which allows them to pay for basic essential expenses. Most often, beneficiaries use the subsidy to purchase food or to pay off debts incurred for daily expenses. As part of its job creation activities, CaWP will target the most vulnerable families offering them community-based work opportunities most suitable to their profile. In accordance with UNRWA’s mandate to assist all refugees, whether they reside in camps, CaWP is implemented in both camps and municipalities across the West Bank.

In 2012, the Job Creation Programme (JCP) will create 60,000 short-term job opportunities, inside and outside refugee camps (Area C, East Jerusalem, seam zone and predominantly refugee communities, directly helping 26,000 households or 130,000 people; 35 percent of the total for women (9,100 beneficiaries), 20 percent for Youth (5,200 beneficiaries), 3 percent for Bedouins herders (780 beneficiaries) and 2 percent for Disabled (520 Beneficiaries).

UNRWA’s JCP the West Bank is seeking to hire a qualified Communication and Visibility Coordinator for 3 months; under the following terms:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Communication and Visibility Coordinator shall execute the various functions outlined below:• Prepare project fact sheets, brochures, success stories, and other written materials for general public;• Organize and conduct press tours for local and international media journalists to highlight projects’ achievements;• Lead the process of designing and producing visibility items including display boards and banners, stationaries, and garments; • Ensure that all visibility and communication items and materials are produced in line with donors’ visibility guidelines;• Assist in the organization of public events including marketing exhibitions for items produced by beneficiaries;• Draft press releases and liaise with local media for publication of articles covering programme activities;• Translate materials from Arabic into English and vice versa;• Contribute to the regular project reporting;• Liaise with other team members in order to obtain timely information and update.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE• University degree or its equivalent in literature, journalism, social sciences, arts or a related field.• 2-4 years of experience in public relations and/or journalism.• Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
