General Description of the Role

GOAL is an international humanitarian agency dedicated to the alleviation of suffering amongst the poorest of the poor in several countries across the developing world. The GOAL UK office is an important element of GOAL's efforts to raise funds and build on relationships with the UK government. GOAL UK has been registered as GOAL International, a non-profit organization, and is currently expanding its office with the aim of increasing money raised across public and corporate donations as well as trusts and foundations.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Executive Director of GOAL UK. The successful candidate will oversee the activities of the London office, develop a strategic plan and create a structured multi-platform fundraising model. The UK office currently runs a number of events each year which generate funds and develops relationships with current and potential donors. It also provides support to GOAL Ireland (Head Office) in targeting institutional donors, Corporates, Trusts and Foundations.

GOAL UK is moving into a new phase of development and is looking to build its proposition to the corporate audience and its focus on Trusts and Foundations. In particular, we are looking to build on community fundraising activities, regular giving, direct marketing and corporate partnership models.

Main responsibilities include:

• To be the head of GOAL UK. The Executive Director will oversee all activities of the GOAL UK office and ensure that these activities are coordinated with GOAL Ireland;

• Provide leadership and direction in creating relationships with donors which have the capacity to evolve into national partnerships;

• Work closely with the Board of Directors and any Advisory Board committees to expand and develop strategies, open new potential donor contacts and work on fundraising events. Produce bi-annual analysis and progress reports for the Board of Directors;

• Develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan which generates new funding commitments from corporate, individual and foundation donors in the UK;

• Strengthen relationships and create opportunities for longer-term funding streams (with new and existing donors);

• Work with the GOAL team to develop new fundraising events as necessary and develop web based strategies for each fundraising event and monitor progress;

• Ensure that the GOAL UK Gala events continue to run successfully;

• Develop post event strategies for on-going development and engagement of relationships with key supporters;

• Oversee the development of a media and marketing plan for GOAL UK in consultation with the social media representative in Dublin. This should include direct mail, electronic giving, and social media aspects of all project undertaken;

• Oversees the creation and maintenance of comprehensive community mailing lists and donor databases for GOAL UK. Ensure that all significant contacts with current or potential donors are documented to share with GOAL Ireland and GOAL UK.

• Work with head office on production, development and submission of concept papers, letters of inquiry (LOI’s), project proposals (both narrative and financial) to send to all applicable donors, trusts, and foundations.

• Ensure that PR and fundraising materials conform to GOAL’s standard guidelines and ensure that activities are completed in a pre-planned manner.

Desired skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience in representing an organization at senior level with partners, private sector corporations, foundations and all other potential donors.

• Minimum of 8 years working experience in development across all platforms including but not specific to; foundations, event management, direct mail, major gifts, corporate sponsorship, and high net-worth individuals.

• A proven track record in the development of fundraising strategies appropriate for a small to medium-sized organization.

• The ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure in a small but busy office.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex international development issues whilst making a compelling case that encourages people to take action and generate further support.

• Self-starter with a high degree of self-reliance.

• Willingness to attend events and meetings outside of regular office hours.

FOCUS Tajikistan is seeking a highly motivated and experienced senior executive with outstanding leadership skills for the role of Executive Officer.

The Executive Officer (EO) is responsible for the overall administration and management of FOCUS Tajikistan, including disaster management programmes, external fund-raising and grant management, and business operations. Areas of responsibility include: strategic leadership, planning, implementation and evaluation of FOCUS Tajikistan’s programmes and operational activities; policy development and administration; personnel and fiscal management; and public relations and external communications. This is a full-time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership: Provide strategic and operational leadership, especially during disasters. Build staff capacity, specifically leadership capacity, through professional development training and mentorship.
  • Programmes: Oversee design, development and implementation of programmes and services for disaster risk reduction, disaster response and refugee/IDP support that provide innovative, sustainable solutions to challenging problems. The programmes would be driven by FOCUS Tajikistan’s mandate and strategic goals and delivered within approved budgets, quality standards and timeframes in collaboration with Government of Tajikistan departments, other FOCUS units and AKDN agencies, UN agencies and other NGOs.
  • Financial: Oversee the financial and management accounting for FOCUS Tajikistan including: budget preparation,’ monitoring and control; timely reporting to Global Office and donors; effective and prudent management of resources; and adherence to AKDN policies and applicable laws. External Relations: Enhance the image and increase the visibility, outreach and impact of FOCUS Tajikistan. Maintain positive relations with donors, AKDN agencies, UN agencies and other NGOs. Develop partnerships including grant/funding agreements with donors.
  • Human Resources: Effectively manage the human resources of FOCUS Tajikistan according to the approved personnel policies and procedures that are consistent with applicable laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE:

  • Advanced degree in business or international development.
  • At least ten years of work experience in a management position including experience as a senior leader within a corporate, government or non-governmental. Experience in development or disaster management will be an asset.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Executive Assistant to the President and CEO is responsible for the overall management and direction of the Office of the President. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

8) Acts as HOPE’s Secretary of the Board. Prepares and arranges for Board and Committee meetings and maintains board records.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

1) 10+ years of direct experience. 3+ years of direct reporting to a CEO or Officer of an organization. 2) Demonstrated experience in planning and organization; able to handle multiple tasks of high priority, in professional, confidential, and efficient manner.

3) Exceptional interpersonal skills and previous experience in high-profile position with interaction with executive and prominent individuals in the public or private sector.

The Position

• Work with Development staff and the Conference Secretaries of Global Ministries (CSGM) to coordinate itineration schedule
• Assisting in creating and directing in conjunction with Development staff and the Mission Interpreters marketing efforts to promote the missionaries visits and work
• Create and enforce itineration policies and develop new ways of communicating with churches using technology
• Provide itineration training for missionaries, CSGMs, and Mission Interpreters
• Coordinate missionary itineration with the assistance of the Development staff to increase financial support for missionaries
• Direct coordination with development staff about retiring missionaries and missionaries leaving service so supporting donors will be informed properly. Work with Development staff to make suggestions to churches about how they can transfer their support
• Review and assist with completion of service/renewal of service policies and requirements such as wellness, pre-retirement itineration, service grants, etc
• Up to 30% domestic and International Travel may be required

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in personnel administration, management or related experience
• Proven experience working strategically
• Experience in international missionary work is a strong plus
• Membership in the United Methodist Church preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic and Programmatic Leadership

• Design and develop The Experiment’s global issues and leadership curriculum and its experiential pedagogy.
• Ensure the institution’s commitment to diversity by designing programs that are attractive to students from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Build effective relationships across the institution by working with colleagues in senior management, advancement, admissions, marketing, and student affairs.
• Work effectively with our Washington DC youth programs division and other colleagues throughout World Learning who work on youth issues.
• Design, develop, and implement new educational tools and innovations for the portfolio.

• Energize alumni to support outreach and build more community or regional alumni supported scholarship initiatives.

Operations and Financial Management

• Establish and implement strategic planning, including the development of short- and long-range goals and objectives.
• Develop an annual budget and monitor costs closely by working with program staff and the Finance Department. Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget. Approve budget and expenses of direct reports.
• Manage staff development and empower the team to achieve the overall goals for the Experiment.

Student Life and Risk Management

• In collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Students, design and implement appropriate staff training and policies for overseas group leaders.
• Work in close collaboration with the Office of the General Counsel and Dean of Students to assess, monitor, and mitigate risk.
• Serve as an integral member of the Crisis Management Team and be on call as necessary.

Communication and Collaboration with other Divisions of World Learning

• Serve as an integral member of the Senior Academic Affairs Team, collaborating with other units including SIT Study Abroad and SIT Graduate Institute.
• Serve on institutional planning and policy-making committees.
• Participate in World Learning events and initiatives.

Perform all other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Master’s degree in education, leadership, youth development, or a related discipline. Ph.D. desirable.
• Experience: 10 to 15 years related experience in experiential education/international exchange with at least five to seven years of this experience in a senior management role.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
• Other: Must have demonstrated skills in change management and organizational development. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication and public speaking skills. Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Word and excellent skills with Microsoft Excel required. Must be able to learn new software quickly. Ability to read, write, speak and understand English is required; multi-lingual preferred.

Executive Director

SUMMARY:

World Learning seeks the ideal leader to implement a strategic plan to rejuvenate The Experiment in International Living, the original flagship program of World Learning and one of the nation’s oldest youth organizations. The Experiment's foundation is built upon deep cultural immersion and strives to provide life skills that enable high school students to find their passion on one of its summer youth programs.

The Executive Director will provide visionary leadership for the Experiment in International Living. The Executive Director will develop a portfolio of dynamic, high quality summer international programs for high school students. Programs will focus on global issues and youth leadership and be mission aligned and financially viable. The Executive Director will work in close collaboration with other colleagues to build upon existing institutional relationships and to forge new relationships with high schools, mentoring organizations, international partners, and donors. The Executive Director sets strategic objectives for The Experiment and is responsible for its long-term financial viability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Academic and Programmatic Leadership

• Design and develop The Experiment’s global issues and leadership curriculum and its experiential pedagogy.
• Ensure the institution’s commitment to diversity by designing programs that are attractive to students from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Build effective relationships across the institution by working with colleagues in senior management, advancement, admissions, marketing, and student affairs.
• Work effectively with our Washington DC youth programs division and other colleagues throughout World Learning who work on youth issues.
• Design, develop, and implement new educational tools and innovations for the portfolio.
• Design and implement institutional metrics that assess impact and effectiveness of Experiment programs.
• Oversee the development of and maintenance of relationships with overseas partners and service providers who deliver content for our programs around the world.

Institutional Relations and Outreach

• Set fundraising priorities for Advancement on the development of new alumni and donor relationships; be available to support outreach efforts when called upon.
• Work in close collaboration with the Enrollment Management division to develop and to maintain excellent relationships with high school partners across the country, to review recruitment goals, and to set pricing.
• Energize alumni to support outreach and build more community or regional alumni supported scholarship initiatives.

Operations and Financial Management

• Establish and implement strategic planning, including the development of short- and long-range goals and objectives.
• Develop an annual budget and monitor costs closely by working with program staff and the Finance Department. Authorize expenditures in accordance with budget. Approve budget and expenses of direct reports.
• Manage staff development and empower the team to achieve the overall goals for the Experiment.
