Medical Teams International is an internationally- recognized Christian relief and development organization with a 33-year history of responding to natural and man-made disasters, implementing community health development programs, providing medical and health services and supplies, and delivering preventative and emergent dental care to people in great need. Mobilizing people of compassion to care for the world’s most vulnerable is what sets Medical Teams International apart. Each year, thousands of medical, dental and support volunteers and corporate partners donate their time, resources and expertise to partner with us to provide life-changing care to those in need.
As we seek to expand our reach and impact in the world, we are looking for a new Vice President of Programs to lead our team of dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners. The current Vice President is retiring after 13 years of distinguished service at Medical Teams International, and we are seeking his replacement – a strong, inspiring, and capable leader with demonstrated experience delivering high impact global health relief and development programming.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Programs reports directly to the President and CEO. This position is based at our headquarters office in Portland, Oregon. The overarching responsibilities include:
Key member of executive leadership team, jointly responsible for the development and execution of long term enterprise wide strategies aligned with mission
Responsible for developing programmatic objectives designed to meet enterprise wide goals, leading a team of 400+ staff and coordinating their efforts with over 2000 professional and lay volunteers who serve in our programs and with partners
Functional span includes medical, dental and health program design, program execution, quality assurance, disaster response/emergency relief services, global security, institutional fundraising, and strategic partnership development

Highly committed to MTI’s mission, vision and values
Strong, inspirational and emerging leader in global health relief and development with ten years or more of progressively increasing strategic leadership responsibilities
Skilled and effective communicator capable of representing MTI with a wide range of constituents and related settings
Tangentially experienced and fluent in related enterprise disciplines of finance, risk management, marketing and operational support
Established track record in institutional resource development and implementation of institutionally funded programs (especially U.S. government grants)
Enthusiastic about travel in the U.S. and overseas for 2-3 months a year for periodsof 2 –3 weeks at a time
Cross-cultural fluency and language skills a plus
Educational background aligned with and in proportion to career track and aspirations
