Function of the Position: This is a full-time permanent position. The principal function of this role is to drive a pipeline of new business opportunities and lead the proposals bid teams.
Roles and Responsibilities:
New Business Development (90%)• Lead team initiatives to develop new business opportunities in Governance and Private Sector Development (PSD)• Identify specific opportunities, develop marketing strategies, and participate in efforts to expand the Governance and PSD practice areas to new markets• Take the lead in preparing Expressions of Interests for clients• Act as Proposal Manager for the development of proposals in response to client requests for technical and other forms of assistance, including:o Identifying and recruiting qualified professionals to staff short- and long-term positions, including interviewing outstanding candidates for long-term positionso Partnership developmento Budgetingo Technical writing (lead or contributing writer)o Managing and coordinating the activities of the proposal team (as Proposal Manager)• Travel for scoping and reconnaissance of current and expected bidding opportunities• Maintain and develop a network of client contacts and partner firms
• Contribute to raise the profile of DAI in the Governance and PSD areas
Consulting Services (5%)• Undertake short-term technical assignments, typically ranging from one to four weeks, providing consulting services in the field as well as high quality technical reports, assessments, and recommendations as requestedCorporate Initiatives (5%)• Lead trainings • Present results of technical work at conferences or other public events• Mentor Junior Staff• Participate in cross-sector process improvement and strategic planning teams
Basic Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: • Minimum 3 years of experience in one of the three core sectors of business: Trade and PSD; Environment and Energy; Governance• Demonstrable and progressively responsible experience in Governance and/or PSD new business development• Solid understanding of proposal development process, and project management systems and best practices • Proven experience providing consulting services and writing winning international development proposals• Strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and motivation skills • Ability to lead and manage diverse internal and external teams• Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a rapidly changing environment, with strong work planning skills • Action oriented with strong intellectual agility and willingness to work flexibly within a team • Able to learn quickly and to apply results oriented problem solving methods • Able to work under pressure and to manage an unpredictable workload
MBA or Masters in Economics, International Development, Law, International Relations or in a related field to that of your chosen core sector, with a minimum of 3 years progressively responsible work experience in international development.
Preferred Qualifications: • Ability to communicate effectively, speaking and writing, in at least one foreign language (French, Portuguese, Arabic for preference).• Experience working with DFID and other major European donors
