Job Description:
The Social and Economic Development Group at FHI 360 houses the practice areas of youth, gender, environment, civil society and peacebuilding, applied technologies and economic development and livelihoods. The Youth Practice Area Coordinator reports directly to the Group Director and coordinates youth development work across the organization.
Major Duties/Responsibilities:RepresentationRepresents the youth practice area in strategic planning, annual planning and budgeting and other organization-wide decision making processesEffectively promotes FHI 360’s youth work within FHI 360, and FHI 360 externally to other groups/organizations through personal contacts and presentationsOversees communications and outreach activities, including knowledge management, tools and other materialsProvides information and makes recommendations to assist SED and FHI 360 in fulfilling its mission of coordination and strategic direction related to our work on youth
Technical LeadershipProvides technical leadership in youth development to the organizationProvides technical oversight to large scale, multi-country programs youth developmentDesigns and implements approaches, tools, frameworks and guidelines to ensure technical quality in youth development (i.e. Global Youth Development Framework)Develops and delivers content and curriculum for trainings and coordinates large-scale meetings, conferences and workshops
Business DevelopmentResponsible for technical leadership in designing and writing proposals on youth development including global mechanisms (IQCs, IDIQs), as needed to facilitate the organization’s strategic goals.Contributes to proposal development activities in other Departments and Groups as needed (coordination, technical leadership, recruitment, partnering, budgeting, production, quality control)
Community of Practice and Youth EventsManages and facilitates the FHI 360-wide Youth Community of PracticeSupports annual one-off youth-focused activities such as conferences and meetings that raise the profile of FHI 360’s youth practice area to an external audience
Management and ReportingWrites and reviews web content and publications on FHI 360’s youth workReports progress and successes of FHI 360’s youth work to the SED Group Director and COOEnsures compliance with company policies and procedures and supports the achievement of concrete programmatic results
Required Experience/Skills: EducationMA in International Studies, International Development, or related field required
Experience5 + years of large-scale project management experience; field experience and 10+ years experience preferredArticulate, professional and able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with clients and staff.Must be able to read, write and speak fluent English.Professional fluency in one or more additional languages preferred.
Applied Knowledge & SkillsTechnical leader in youth developmentTechnical leader in all aspects of project management, especially of USAID contracts and grantsResponsible for financial and contractual management of USAID contracts including budget design and financial oversightDemonstrated experience implementing program activities in extremely challenging environments and in contexts with limited human capacityKnowledge of procurement processes and systemsExperience with training and facilitationExceptional interpersonal skillsExcellent communication and presentation skillsExceptional writing, editorial, and communication skills; excellent command of English grammar and usage
