Position Summary
The Intern will provide support for the administrative, logistical and programmatic aspects for Global Internet Freedom programs. She/he will have the opportunity to assist the team to counteract the rising trend of government censorship and surveillance, expand the use of anti-censorship technologies, build support networks for citizens fighting against online repression, and to focus greater international attention on the growing threats to users' rights. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Director for Internet Freedom programs.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, political science, or related field, or current college or graduate studentStrong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingProficiency with MS Office Suite specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OutlookDemonstrated familiarity and interest in freedom of expression, human rights and/or technology policy issuesKnowledge of information and communication technologies and/or social media advocacyExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent research, analytical, and writing skillsAbility to work both independently and collaboratively with program teamAbility to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all timesExperience with preparing financial documents preferred
Some Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with researching briefing memos, drafting correspondence, and developing project proposals and budgetsOrganize meetings and events, arrange travel, and prepare financial formsMaintain files and databasesAssist in the development and production of promotional materialsMonitor relevant information updates on mainstream news sites, blogs, and social media sitesCommunicate via secure email, VoIP and chat with field staff, consultants and local partnersOther related duties as assigned.
