PROGRAM BACKGROUNDInternational Medical Corps has implemented a program in Libya that aims to strengthen the physical rehabilitation services in certain areas of Libya, through upgrading of primary rehabilitation and the development of community and outreach services. The locations are Tripoli, Misurata and Benghazi but are subject to change.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The focus of the work is to support disabled people and their families and ensure Libyan staff recieve appropriate training and support to implement modern approaches to disability. The Specialist will ensure the implementation of the following:

  1. Ensure that the project goals and targets in regard to psychosocial activities are implemented and met.
  2. Work with the local psychologist to ensure that appropriate consultations, recommendations and treatment plans are developed for those that seek support.
  3. Ensure training needs analysis is undertaken and that psychologists (and/or other support workers) recieve up-to-date training on disability and other related issues.
  4. Assist in the implementation of confidential documentation of treatment records (e.g. client history, intake, assessment, project notes)
  5. Assist with setting up of peer-to-peer counseling and user groups (persons who use the centre for physiotherapy and psychosocial care)
  6. Ensure that disabled people and their families are fully included in the decision making about any services they recieve.
  7. Work in partnership with the physiotherapist in the centre (expat and focal) to ensure that there is harmony in treatment plans and activities.

  8. MA degree in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or relevant.

  9. Rehabilitation and/or psychotherapy work experience in the public or private sector.
  10. Experience of disability, preferably both in conflict and nonconflict settings
  11. Training experience
  12. Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural and mutldisciplinary settings, including, but not limited to, considering influence of culture, ethnicity, language, gender, age, development level, sexual orientation, social network, residence, and geographic location, socioeconomic status, and relative visibility and/or assumption of disability on atitudes and the available services.
  13. Extensive knowledge on public mental health approach and prevention/promotion treatment and rehabilitation modles in MHPSS.
  14. Personal qualities, including a sesnse of initiative, strong work ethics, very good communication skills, self-confidence, and committment to humanitarian issues.

Languages: Fluency in oral and written English; Arabic a plus.Computer Skills: Proficiency in current office software applications.
