The Transparency International Secretariat is seeking a highly motivated intern to work with the Media and Public Relations Unit in the Communications Department. This is a 6-month internship starting in October 2013.
Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
The Communications Department is responsible for conceptualising and producing internal and external communications strategies and materials for global reach along with tailored communications tools for regional and thematic programmes.
Main function: Supporting the Media and Public Relations Unit
Starting date: 28 October 2013
Duration: Six months
Department: Communications
Remuneration: EUR 450 (according to the German labour and social security law)
Location: Berlin, Germany
Key tasks:
• General assistance to the Media and Public Relations Unit
• Daily news monitoring
• Research topics relevant to the department
• Maintain and build media contacts database
• Assist with interview requests, as needed, and preparations for global launches
• Assist in overall communications outreach efforts
• Logistical support for international events/press conferences
• Depending on level of skills, may involve drafting, light editing and/or translation of selected texts and/or assistance with podcasts
Knowledge, experience, interests and skills:
• Communications, journalism or social science related degree
• Strong communication and writing skills
• Native or fluent English (written and spoken); additional languages are highly desirable
• Experience using the internet as a research and communications tool
• Computer software skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Good time management skills, ability to multitask and meet deadlines
• Creative, organised, resourceful with a solutions-oriented approach
• Considerable interest in the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption
• Knowledge of the international media landscape would be an advantage
