Democratic Republic of the Congo: Regional Representative, West and Central Africa

Organization: Development Media International
Country: Democratic Republic of the Congo
Closing date: 01 Nov 2013

Development Media International (www.developmentmedia.net) delivers mass media campaigns to change behaviours and save lives in developing countries. DMI is the first media organisation to use scientific modelling in order to save the greatest number of lives in the most cost-effective way. Our mathematical model predicts that if we could conduct campaigns in 12 countries over the next 10 years, we should save one million lives (www.mediamillionlives.com); and we are currently running a four-year scientific trial in Burkina Faso to test this, the first such trial in the world. We intend to establish a nationwide programme in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) – see attached one-pager. We are also actively pursuing funding to start country-level campaigns in several other countries in West and Central Africa. We are looking for a regional representative to help us achieve these goals.

The Regional Representative (RR) will be responsible for establishing DMI in at least one additional country in West or Central Africa by the end of 2015. He/she will be based in Kinshasa (initially we intend to rent space in the office of a UN agency or NGO, but we may set up a DMI office later); but will work closely with the DMI team in London, and where applicable with the DMI programme in Burkina Faso.

The RR’s main focus will be on new business development. The successful applicant will need to be a superb diplomat: he/she will be the public face of DMI in DRC and West Africa and will need to ensure effective relationships with governments, broadcasters and funders. Excellent communication skills in both English and French are essential. He/she will not be expected to set up and manage new projects once they are secured; but will advise and assist new project managers and country directors as necessary during the transition period.

Salary range: £50-£60k, depending on experience, plus accommodation and flights package.

How to apply:

To apply, please send your CV (maximum two pages), and a covering letter (maximum one page) which systematically explains how your knowledge, experience and skills fit the requirements, to jobs@developmentmedia.net by the end of 1 November. Applicants are strongly advised to attend one of two presentations on DMI’s work, detailed in the job description.
