Senegal: Regional Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist

The post is on local contract, grade E, based at the Regional Office in Dakar or any Plan Country Office in West Africa. The post holder will travel frequently within and outside the region.
The regional Office of Plan in West Africa is looking for a Regional Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist to ensure child-centered DRR initiatives strengthen the capacity of children, youth and communities in protecting children through partnerships and linkages with appropriate actors. S/He will ensure that Plan Country Strategic Plans and Country Programs and overall Plan’s Child-Centered Community Development (CCCD) approach is reflected in child protection in disaster preparedness and response programs.
Under the supervision of Regional DRM Manager, the Regional Child Protection in Emergencies Specialist will support child protection in emergencies programming in WARO countries in accordance with Plan DRM strategy and in compliance with the DRM Policy.

Plan WARO countries are better prepared to effectively respond to child protection needs in disasters
Plan WARO countries has an experienced in house child protection in emergencies capacity to be deployed in first days of disasters
Plan WARO child protection in emergencies program are well coordinated with increasing funding.
ABOUT YOU:
Knowledge, Skills, Behaviors, and Experience Required to Achieve Role’s Objectives:
1.Knowledge
Essential
Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline (development studies, child rights, education, community development, disaster risk manager) with experience in child protection in emergencies and/or humanitarian response.
2. Experience Required
Essential
- At least five years’ experience working for a reputable international humanitarian and development organization in emergencies.
- Experience in management of slow onset disasters in a conflict or post conflict environment preferably in the West Africa region.
- Experience in working in multi-country DRM programming.
- Direct experience of working with children and young people and in understanding and responding to their needs and rights.
- Strong coordination skills in programming, resource management and safety and security.
- Ability to think strategically, but also result oriented and get things done.
- Strong planning, monitoring and organizational skills with good knowledge of the use of logical and result-based monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Knowledge and experience in a range of participatory and child/gender sensitive approaches.
- Very strong analytically and excellent proposal and report writing skills, with close attention to details.
- Documented experience as a trainer/facilitator in humanitarian assistance issues and staff mentoring.
- Experience of working with institutional donors/fundraisers in child protection.
Desirable
- Experience of working in post-conflict situations, particularly in West Africa and the Sahel or similar environments.
- Experience in overseeing/managing child protection in humanitarian situation.

- Excellent knowledge of computer application software.

Monthly Gross Salary ranges: 1,835,161 XOF - 2,202,193 XOF
