United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the): Research Officer – g7+
ODI aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.
The g7+ is a voluntary diplomatic group of fragile countries that was established in 2010 to give voice to conflict-affected states on the international stage. The group, currently comprising 17 countries, advocates changes to the way international partners engage in conflict-affected environments, and also acts as a platform for sharing and learning between countries.
The purpose of this role is to support the g7+ group of fragile and affected countries, under the supervision of ODI’s g7+ Programme Manager. You will conduct research, provide capacity support, facilitate peer learning and increase the international profile of the g7+. You will support the implementation of the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States by providing research and technical support to pilot countries, both remotely and in-country, liaising as necessary with the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding.
About youThe successful candidates will have:
• a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, such as international relations, international development, economics, politics or a related field• knowledge of international institutions• some experience working with or in developing countries • a good understanding of the political economy of development and experience in research, government or the development field• excellent research, analytical and writing skills• the ability to plan their own work schedule and multi-task effectively to deadline and budget• the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and projects• strong interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate successfully, and with cultural awareness• working knowledge of a language other than English (desirable)• willingness to travel to international meetings as well as to g7+ member countries (travelling up to 20 per cent of the time).
