ODI (www.odi.org.uk) aims to inspire and inform policy and practice to reduce poverty by locking together high-quality applied research and practical policy advice.

We are looking for a Programme Officer to join the ODI Fellowship Scheme team which currently consists of the Head of the ODI Fellowship Scheme, the Programme Manager and a Programme Officer. You will play a key role in the management of the Fellowship Scheme, which places postgraduate economists and statisticians to work for two years within the civil services of developing countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

You will make a substantial contribution to the Fellowship Scheme selection and recruitment process, by ensuring each element of the recruitment process is completed to the deadlines of the annual recruitment cycle. You will also make a substantial contribution towards providing support to Fellows during their Fellowships and participate in the annual placement tours. You will also provide support to the Head of the Fellowship Scheme in the day-to-day administration of the Scheme.

Other key responsibilities include:• Assistance with advertising, selection and recruitment of Fellows.• With the Head of the Fellowship Scheme and Programme Manager develop and organise the week-long Briefing Session to prepare Fellows to take up their posts overseas.• Assistance with the annual placement tours to participating country governments.• Support the Head of the Fellowship Scheme in maintaining contact with current Fellows and over 1,000 former Fellows.• Providing Fellows with monthly updates on prospective job opportunities towards the end of their posting.• Monitoring current events in Fellowship countries.

About you: • Education to degree level.• Knowledge of a variety of software packages including MS Outlook, MS Excel, database and website-specific software.• Presentation skills.• Time-management skills including planning and prioritising own work.• Excellent organisational and administrative skills.• Multitasking skills in a high-pressure environment.• Ability to work to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.• French and Portuguese language skills would be advantageous.
