MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.
Iraq is MAG’s longest-established programme with over 500 national staff. Since the conflict in 2003, the programme has adapted and changed to respond to conflict recovery and socio-economic development needs at the community and regional levels. The programme headquarters is in Erbil supporting activities throughout Iraq. We are seeking a Community Liaison Manager to support the programme with the development of Community Liaison systems and tools in support of the programme strategy.
As a Community Liaison Manager with MAG you will work within local communities and liaise with a wide range of relevant stakeholders. Your role will be to enhance national capacity building through the design and delivery of training and coaching to national Community Liaison staff. This will involve designing and delivering Mine Risk Education programmes to be implemented in the region by your Community Liaison teams.
Successful candidates will have experience of leading, motivating and managing national staff, have strong participatory learning and facilitation skills and experience of conducting needs or risk assessments in order to design and implement appropriate interventions. In addition, candidates should have experience in designing and delivering formal or informal training, with the ability to organize and coordinate activities or projects.
Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments. MAG takes its responsibility for the security and wellbeing of its staff very seriously. Due to the some of the areas in which we currently work in Iraq, living arrangements can involve restricted movement and access to recreational activities is limited. As a result of the security conditions, the post holder will be living and working in close proximity to other MAG staff.
