The Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Senior Specialist will provide state of the art technical support and guidance to country offices for the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and documentation of Save the Children’s ECCD programs for children ages 0-8. S/he will be an integral member of a team of education and child development experts based both regionally and in out US headquarters, and will ultimately be a key player in contributing to our overall goal of helping children develop to their full potential. S/he will play a key role in the implementation of SC’s global education and child development strategy. The ECCD Senior Specialist will work closely with other Education and Child Development technical experts (Basic Education, School Health and Nutrition, Education in Emergencies, and Research) and other program departments (HIV/AIDS and Child Protection, Health and Nutrition, Hunger and Livelihoods, and Humanitarian Response) team members in home offices, SC member offices, and country offices. The ECCD Senior Specialist also leads country specific and regional advocacy efforts as well as ECCD proposal development as required.
Responsibilities
Provide regular technical assistance and leadership to specific countries in formulating program designs and country strategies for ECCD
Provide technical guidance and leadership to country programs to ensure quality ECCD programming that will increase the number of children who are developing and learning.
Provide basic assessment, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation support to country office
Collaborate with other technical advisors from other thematic areas to advance cross-sectoral programming approaches that meet the needs of young children such as Basic Education and School Health and Nutrition, and Education in Emergencies.
Support country offices to build and share evidence, foster EGI linkages, and support program pilot and scale up.
Provide technical support to Sponsorship ECCD programs and participate in Sponsorship Technical Working Group meetings
Act as integral member of the ECCD technical team, providing input into DECD’s strategic and operational plan
Represent SCUS as a technical expert to external forums related to ECCD as needed
Monitor new developments in ECCD and participate in promoting application of best practice.
Participate and where indicated, take the lead in the development and submission of quality proposals in response to identified opportunities
Requirements
Masters degree requited in early childhood development, international education, developmental psychology, public health or relevant field.
Minimum 7 years program experience in early childhood development, international experience preferred
Experience in program design and proposal development, including public and private donors.
Ability to travel 30-50% of the time
Ability to work as a team player and coordinate activities across countries and departments essential
Language skills (especially Spanish) strongly desired.
