Job Responsibilities:
Abt Associates seeks a Writer/Editor to support continued growth in its International Health Division. The Writer/Editor assists in the development of high quality, compliant proposals submitted to federal government and other clients. Responsibilities on each proposal will differ, but can include the following:
Substantive editing, which focuses on improving readability by shortening sentences, eliminating redundancies, rearranging sentences to improve transitions, and clarifying exhibits and references.Marrying and weaving text from different writers into a unified voice.Copyediting, which focuses on correcting errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and style; verifying that acronyms are defined; checking proper references of client names, position titles, etc.; and ensuring consistency in formatting.Other proposal support tasks such as developing proposal style guides, developing compliance matrixes, conducting compliance reviews, performing final quality control reviews, and working with graphics and production staff to coordination final proposal production, packaging, and delivery.Original writing, which consists of researching and drafting specific proposal sections such as management, staffing, corporate experience, past performance, or other areas for which technical expertise is not required.
In addition to proposal specific writing and editing responsibilities, this position may perform the following tasks:Write and/or update proposal boilerplate textDevelop capability statements and other business development (BD) or marketing related documents drawing from existing materialsProvide writing and editing services on project deliverables and marketing materials for both internal and external dissemination
Skills Prerequisites:
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, or related fields preferred.Strong editing, proofreading, and writing skills.Knowledge of the international development industry and donors, specifically USAID and DFID, is highly preferred.Knowledgeable in using/adhering to GPO, APA, and/or Chicago style manuals.Ability to work autonomously and in team environment under critical deadline pressures.High level of proficiency in MS Office applications.Strong organizational skills that demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.Experience with Government proposals highly desired.Writing and/or editing sample may be required.
