Position Summary
The Program Officer will support ongoing activities and projects of the Emergency Assistance Program related to religious freedom, working to provide emergency assistance to individuals under threat around the world. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Director for Lifeline programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in religious studies, political science, international relations, human rights, law, or related field; Masters degree preferredMinimum 4 - 6 years of experience in program management including reporting ability and knowledge of funder account requirementsStrong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingAbility to communicate effectively in Arabic strongly preferredStrong knowledge of human rights principles and mechanisms, and understanding of democracy promotionStrong appreciation of and demonstrated experience in human rights defense workFamiliarity with Fluxx or other secure data base systems and secure communicationsAcademic, field and/or related knowledge of religious freedom and religious persecutionExperience working on issues pertaining to at least one or two related world regionsExperience working with a small team in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated experience in creating, managing and reporting on budgets and program activitiesStrong ability to plan, organize, prioritize work, and multi-task to meet tight deadlinesAbility to apply superb attention to detail and consistently produce timely and error-free workAbility to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
Some Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor key developments regarding violations of religious freedomManage cases while ensuring complete, accurate, and timely processingConduct outreach to human rights defenders and civil society organizations (CSOs) globallyCover Washington DC-based events pertaining to religious freedomDevelop effective professional relationships with partner organizationsNegotiate and write contracts, MOUs, letters of agreement, and other contractual documents, and ensure that the objectives and terms of agreements are metSupport proposal writing, identify new donors and partners, and draft narrative reports to fundersCarry out weekly, monthly and quarterly program reporting on a regional and global levelOther related duties as assigned.
