Asylum Access is an innovative nonprofit dedicated to realizing refugee rights in the Africa, Asia and Latin America through individualized legal counsel and representation, community legal empowerment, policy advocacy and strategic litigation. We are currently seeking a Communications and Development Intern (CDI) to assist our team in engaging institutional partners, individual donors and prospective supporters.
The ideal candidate will be a college junior or senior, with good written and oral communication skills, a passion for human rights empowerment, highly organized and have an interest in gaining experience in nonprofit grantwriting and communications work. Interns are expected to commit 16-20 hours for a minimum of 12 weeks at our office in San Francisco, USA. We are currently recruiting a Fall 2013 intern to start in September.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Online communications, website and improving our online presence
- Grant-writing and grant research
- Working on year-round outreach and donor cultivation campaigns
- General support for our grants management team
- Organizing our individual donor engagement events
Qualifications:
- Strong writing skills and attention to detail
- Passion for human rights or refugee rights issues
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to take ownership of projects and take initiative
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task and stay organized
- Knowledge of social media
- Available for at least 12 weeks for 16-20 hours per week.
