Save the Children UK is recruiting a permanent Senior Gender Advisor (to apply for this role see here: http://bit.ly/15NhZfv) but we anticipate a 3 month gap between the current post-holder leaving and the person being appointed arriving. We will bridge this gap with an interim appointment (and the interim appointee would not be excluded from applying for the permanent post). The interim post is to ensure that the progress achieved in recent years is sustained and the ground prepared for a further step forward. It is therefore a strategically important task.
This post sits within the Impact, Innovation and Evidence team, in the Programme Policy and Quality department based in the Global Programme Division in Save the Children UK. The team is a central group to leverage knowledge, innovation and best practice, through monitoring and evaluation and operations research, and support mainstreaming of gender in programmatic work across the PPQ department. The post is therefore located within a group committed to the effective use of evidence, to responsible innovation, and above all to having impact.
JOB PURPOSE
The role will involve three aspects, the balance of which will be determined in discussion with management.
The first deliverable is to provide technical advice to support gender sensitive and gender transformative programming across a number of country programmes most probably including one or more of the following countries: Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Tajikistan, and Ethiopia.
The second is to support our continuing work to strengthen the capacity of Country Offices to design and deliver gender sensitive and gender transformative programmes.
The third is to work within Head Office (Farringdon, London) to provide practical training for thematic teams in the department and support using gender analysis to inform or to drive programming e.g. tools and guidance documents.

The post-holder will be a credible gender specialist within development programming and a strong influencer with the ability to identify programmatic opportunities to address inequalities and will confidently engage in internal and external discussions about gender and development.
