PROGRAM BACKGROUNDThe needs of disabled adults and children in the refugee situation are great and the programme will need to look at both conflict and non conflict related disabilities, ranging from rehabilitation of war wounded persons (amputations, gunshot wounds, torture survivors etc) and those already disabled (cerebral palsy, congenital conditions, ncds etc) Facilities for rehabilitation are minimal and initiative will be needed. A key feature of the post will be training Syrian physiotherapists or physio aides. This post will be based in southern Turkey and will be for the start up of a disability/rehabilitation programme.

JOB SUMMARYThe physiotherapist will ensure that disabled adults and children receive appropriate physiotherapy services. This may mean setting up rehabilitation services from scratch or working in existing centres. It will involve training both staff to implement activities and ensuring family involvement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES1. Ensure all clientele receive an appropriate physiotherapy service, particularly through:• Training of local physios/physio aides• Provide on-the-job support2. Advise on assistive devices and source (either by making or buying where possible)3. Ensure that families are involved in rehabilitation activities4. Support any rehabilitation centres where they exist5. Ensure targeted post operative individuals persons, particularly children receive treatment6. Ensure the development of a monitoring and referral system enabling tracking of clients’ progress7. Review data collection systems and client information registry and revise where necessary at the rehab centres. 8. Supervise physiotherapy activities in the programme9. Set up daily exercise routines that patients can implement for themselves 10. Work with the coordinator to look at long-term possibilities (including outreach, self help groups etc.)11. Ensure the appropriate equipping of rehab centres with basic physiotherapy materials (balls, tables, weights etc) and essential equipment of physical rehabilitation of children with disabilities. 12. Work with any other support staff (psychologists, social workers) to look at the development of peer-to-peer support groups 13. Ensure child friendly physiotherapy takes place where appropriate (may involve setting up children’s rooms if necessary/appropriate)14. Represent IMC on physiotherapy issues15. Ensure the production of reports and that any lessons learnt can be documented both for internal use and for possible publication

Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS1. Degree in Physiotherapy, Minimum of 3 – 4 years experience 2. Experience of in neurological and pediatric physical rehabilitation preferable.3. Experience in bio psycho social approach to treatment4. Experience of training, both design and implementation of training programmes5. Skilled in the prevention of disability 6. CBR/outreach experience an advantage7. Experience of P+O including the appropriate usage of adaptive aids8. NGO experience 9. Experience in Middle East/North Africa highly desirable10. Ability to think creatively and problem solve11. Excellent networking and liaison skills12. Ability to self direct13. Strong ability to work in a team14. Ability to work under difficult circumstances15. Excellent writing and representational skills16. Working knowledge of Arabic an advantage
