Italy: Communications and Marketing Consultant

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill a Communications and Marketing international consultancy position. The position will be based at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy for a contract period of 6 months, with possibility of extension up to 11 months.
Under the direct supervision of the Global Media Coordinator, Communications Division, and the Head of Partnership, Private Partnerships Division, the Consultant will be responsible for the following key duties:
Communications
- Serve as primary communications focal point for assigned geographic areas and thematic issues;
- Prepare and edit news releases, briefing notes, backgrounders, features, media talking points, question and answer documents;
- Generate social media content including, text, photos, videos and audio for use across a range of integrated online platforms including WFP website, Twitter feeds and Facebook pages;
- Prepare multi-media products for external distribution to the public, the media, educational institutions, non-governmental agencies and donors;
- Ensure that communications activities promote an accurate image of the organization and its programmes amongst media and other targeted audiences such as the UN, donor partners and NGOs;
- Advise WFP staff at all levels of potential impact of press activities and statements;
- Stay current on WFP operations, public policy trends and issues.
Marketing
- In partnership with the Private Sector Team and its private sector partners, develop strategic media campaigns/plans for a variety of private sector partners representing different industries; campaign development is for existing companies/partners and new business proposals/pitches;
- Assist team members on creative development and crafting presentations for a variety of campaigns/companies;
- Provide guidance on communications and marketing plans and/or messages;
- Write both company (PS partners) and consumer facing proposals, plans, pitches, marketing pieces, internal communications pieces (Annual Review etc) and press releases relating to WFP’s private partnerships;
- Maintain the wfp.org private sector section, tweets on @wfp_business, write private sector blog posts;
- Oversee day-to-day media relations and marketing plans from inception to execution, hitting all deliverables on time;
- Keep abreast of current marketing and media landscape, including newspapers, magazines, journals, broadcasts, newswires and blogs for private sector opportunities;
- Effectively support communications efforts across a global team in multiple countries and time zones.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications or other related fields, with knowledge of communication and marketing principles;
- At least 5 years of postgraduate professional experience in communications and marketing or public relations;
- Experience in managing media relations and marketing campaigns;
- Experience in agency and brand management is an asset;
- Deep understanding and passion for communications and marketing;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Highly skilled in conceptualizing, writing and selling to internal and external audiences;
- Entrepreneurial mindset that thrives in an ever-changing landscape;
- Thinks innovatively and blends big ideas with realistic execution;
- Great communicator and enthusiastic;
- Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English.
