Yemen: WASH Project Manager - Yemen

Organization: Norwegian Refugee Council
Country: Yemen
Closing date: 06 Feb 2014

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 3500 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs NRC has closely monitored the situation of displaced in Yemen and initiated its intervention in Yemen in late 2009. Two initial assessments were conducted in December 2009 and February/March 2010. The assessments indicated a need for NRC programmes and the humanitarian space to implement them. NRC therefore submitted a registration application to the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) on 24 February 2010 and in January 2012 NRC signed a MOU with the Government of Yemen (GoY) allowing NRC to start providing humanitarian assistance to refugees and IDPs in the country. The MoU reflects the very good working relationship NRC has established with GoY. In the first half of 2012 NRC established presence in Sanaa and conducted further programme assessments.

Already in May 2012 NRC distributed NFI kits to IDPs in Aden. This rapid response has further improved NRC’s relations with GoY, in particular regional authorities as well as the Aden IDP Committee. At present NRC is implementing, through local partners, transitional shelters, WASH, education, Food Security and Livelihoods along with distribution of NFI. NRC has a geographical coverage of three governorates in the south; Aden, Abyan and Lahj, where there is a high presence of IDPs, returnees and refugees, with an office in Aden. In the northern governorates, NRC’s presence is in Hajja Governorate where the IDPs fleeing the conflict in Sa’ada and Al Jawaf Governorates have sought refuge. A satellite office has been set up at Haradh.

NRC works closely with the Government, UN, NGOs and target groups directly involving them in planning and implementation process. Recruitment of national staff is ongoing as per the recently approved organizational structure. A country strategy for 2013-2014 and a plan of action for 2014 has also been developed.

The WASH Project Manager (WASH PM) is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of the NRC WASH Projects in Yemen in close collaboration with the Shelter, Education and Food Security and Livelihoods project Managers. The WASH PM shall work under the guidance of the Program Director to fulfil the objectives of the NRC as stated in the Programme Principles, the Country Strategy, Project Proposals and budget.

Switzerland: Regional Director for Europe

Organization: Center for Reproductive Rights
Country: Switzerland
Closing date: 02 May 2014

Job Title:Regional Director for Europe

Department: Global Legal Program

Job Posted On:March 21, 2014

Center Background: Founded in 1992, the Center for Reproductive Rights (the Center) is a non-profit organization that promotes women’s equality worldwide by securing reproductive rights in constitutional and international human rights law. Its mission is straightforward and ambitious: to advance reproductive health and rights as fundamental rights that all governments are legally obligated to protect, respect and fulfill. The Center is unmatched as a reproductive rights organization in its expertise in U.S. constitutional law, comparative law, and international human rights law.
The Center works across the globe on issues including access to life-saving obstetrics care, contraception, abortion services, and comprehensive sexuality information. In the U.S. Legal Program, the Center’s preeminent litigation team has helped millions of women and their families by securing government funding for abortions, striking down abortion bans and other access restrictions, and protecting teens’ access to emergency contraception and confidential reproductive healthcare services and information. The Center’s complementary legislative advocacy initiatives and strategies have helped local advocates fight restrictive abortion legislation in over 25 states as well as promote reproductive rights and access to health care for millions of women. Through our human rights advocacy, the Center has been able to promote the integration and adoption of human rights principles in the domestic sphere while systematically norm-building and elevating local reproductive health issues within international treaty monitoring bodies and partner organizations.

The Center’s Global Legal Program has brought groundbreaking cases before national courts, U.N. committees, and regional human rights bodies, and has built the legal capacity of women's rights advocates in over 50 countries. Our Government Relations Program, based in Washington, DC since 2009, focuses on both U.S. domestic and foreign policy, providing leadership within the community of reproductive rights allies. In recent years, the Center has been able to dramatically expand its pro bono support from U.S. and non-U.S. based law firms, supporting not only the work of our U.S. Legal Program, but also our Government Relations Program (engaged in federal advocacy in Washington D.C.) and our Global Legal Program (engaged in advocacy and litigation before the United Nations and various regional and national bodies throughout the world).

The Regional Director for Europe will be joining the Center at a critical time for reproductive rights globally. As opponents of women’s rights are mounting a scorched-earth campaign to turn back decades of hard-won progress, the Center is fighting back with short-, medium-, and long-term strategies, to reverse the erosion of reproductive rights protections across the U.S. and establish the right to affordable reproductive healthcare in the U.S. A key component of our strategic plan is to restore heightened protections for abortion rights, as promised to American women in the landmark decision of Roe v. Wade (1973).

The Center seeks a seasoned strategic program and operations professional to oversee and develop the work of the Europe Program.
