Girls Not Brides is seeking an experienced and committed Africa Regional Officer (Maternity cover) to drive the Partnership’s work in Africa.

Girls Not Brides: The Global Partnership to End Child Marriage brings together more than 300 civil society organisations from around the world that work to address child marriage at all levels. Girls Not Brides works to empower those seeking to end child marriage, to raise awareness of the harmful impact of the practice and the solutions to end it; and to call for urgent action by relevant stakeholders.

About the role

The Africa Regional Officer will be the key point person for the Partnership’s work in Africa – a region of particular interest for Girls Not Brides and its members. S/he will implement Girls Not Brides’ policy and advocacy strategies in Africa; liaise with Girls Not Brides members and national partnerships across Africa and support their work; strengthen the presence of Girls Not Brides in the region; and contribute to the broader strategic, programmatic and communications work of Girls Not Brides.

This temporary, full-time maternity cover placement is expected to start late October 2013, for a minimum of 6 months.

The role
This is an interim post covering maternity leave. This post will enhance the global campaign by ensuring effective campaigns and advocacy delivery. It will ensure the right capacity, structure, planning and evaluation of our campaigns and advocacy in priority countries, across Save the Children International (SCI) and in newer Save the Children Member organisations.

Qualifications and experience:
• Proven success in building advocacy and campaign capacity
• Demonstrable experience in planning in line with Save the Children’s theory of change
• Experience of strategic planning with country programs
• Experience of successfully operating in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
• Experience of building personal networks, enabling effective outcomes.
• Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in.
• Commitment to Save the Children values.
• Understanding of, and willingness to travel in, developing countries.

This role is a 4 months maternity cover. The location can be flexible within the countries where Save the Children operate.
