Value Chain Competitiveness and Inclusiveness Expert, Ghana

We are currently seeking a Value Chain Competitiveness and Inclusiveness Expert for a newly awarded agricultural value chain program in Ghana that will increase the competitiveness of the maize, rice and soya value chains. Ghana ADVANCE II is a $34 million project that will be the primary mechanism for value chain support under USAID/Ghana’s FtF strategy, with the objective of developing sustainable, private sector driven agricultural transformation that will increase rural household incomes. ADVANCE II will foster growth and reduce poverty through improving the competitiveness of selected value chains—maize, rice and soya—in the north to the benefit of large numbers of male and female smallholders. The project will work to achieve these results through three integrated components: increased agricultural productivity in targeted commodities; increased market access and trade of targeted commodities; and strengthened local capacity for advocacy and activity implementation. The position is based in Tamale and is anticipated to begin in February 2014.

Responsibilities:Lead the design process of value chain upgrading strategies, addressing production, post-harvest, processing and marketing priorities through market driven sustainable approaches.Work with regional value chain networks to identify upgrading opportunities, public-private partnerships and other opportunities that support an industry vision. Provide quality control and ensure timeliness of all value chain deliverables.Ensure effective coordination among component leads and program staff across all value chain activities.Ensure all project staff are trained in market facilitation and value chain development concepts and approaches and committed to the identified value chain upgrading strategies.Provide input into the performance monitoring plan to measure success and validate causal model assumptions, and provide oversight of the field-level data collection under the guidance of the Monitoring and Evaluation Expert.

Qualifications:A Master’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years’ experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of seven years’ experience in a mix of economic growth/trade/value chain competitiveness/agriculture development/food security programs.Demonstrated success in implementing programs aimed at increasing the competitiveness and inclusiveness of value chains using facilitation approaches.Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in value chain development that reaches women and the poor.Demonstrated creativity, willingness to innovate, think systemically and design catalytic activities.Demonstrated experience in collaborating across projects.Previous African experience preferred.Fluency in English, written and spoken, is required.

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland: Consultant: Increasing Women’s products competitiveness in local and external markets

As part of the project “Increasing Women’s products competitiveness in local and external markets” funded by Christian Aid and executed by The Agricultural Development Association (PARC), a market study should be carried out in the United Kingdom. The study should deliver comprehensive information about the fair trade market in general, and about the Palestinian product competitiveness in particular. It will focus on specific products namely olive oil, almonds, medjoul dates and za’atar.
