OVERVIEW OF CTG GLOBAL

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for the full range of automotive maintenance and repair needed to keep all vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including gas, diesel and electrical engines. Incumbents in this classification typically inspect automotive, and/or farm equipment to determine necessary corrective action; perform diagnostic tests using engine analysers; fabricate or modify equipment and various other metal structures.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS

· Diagnoses, repairs and overhauls engines, transmissions, components, electrical and fuel systems, etc. for various powered and rolling equipment such as, cars, trucks, and buses, farm equipment, and generators.

· Performs tune ups, brake jobs and other preventative maintenance on cars, trucks, buses, and other powered rolling equipment; replaces common parts and makes adjustments.

· Repairs mowers, tractors, and other small engines.

· Designs, welds, and fabricates steel, aluminium and stainless steel fabricated projects using stick and gas.

· Assists in the writing of specifications for acquisition of District vehicles

· Maintains appropriate service and repair records.

· Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.

· Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role in maintenance works

· Must be qualified in heavy equipment such as FEL, Mine resistant vehicles (MPV), diesel vehicles, generators and other heavy equipment

· Must have a diploma or certification from recognised professional body.

· Ability to provide second line support.

· Experience in conflict/post conflict zones, the East African and Horn of Africa Regions, especially Somalia is an added advantage.

· Ability to operate a VHF radio, possess basic first aid, security and fire marshall skills.

· Must be able to develop a team with a strong work ethic, plan for adequate supplies required for general maintenance and to guide staff under his/her supervision in their work and the use of various equipments

LANGUAGES

  • Excellent communication and written skills in English.

South Sudan (Republic of): Vehicle Expert

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been operational in Sudan since 2004 and South Sudan, providing assistance to IDPs, returnees, refugees and host communities in areas of significant return. NRC currently operates an integrated programme focused on four out of NRC’s usual five core competencies: Education, Shelter, Food Security and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA). The NRC South Sudan programme is implemented in Warrap, Northern Bahr el Gazal and Central Equatoria states. NRC is also exploring the possibility of further expansion into Upper Nile State late 2012/ early 2013.

Having doubled in size twice in two years, NRC is consolidating its growth and is seeking to engage the services of a Vehicle Expert/Mechanic to assist in ensuring that the organisation’s vehicle management procedures and practices reflect the requirements of the growing organisation and the South Sudan context post-independence.

Job description■Adapt NRC global vehicle management regulations to the South Sudan context and implement them ■Train drivers and Transport Assistants on best practices of fleet management ■Assess the needs for NRC workshops and fuel storage facilities in Aweil and Alek, and make recommendations for improvements, equipment and tools ■Oversee the operations of existing NRC vehicle workshops, ensure proper management structures and provide on-the-job training mechanics ■Oversee the planning for and procurement of consumable spare parts, ensure appropriate storage and usage tracking ■Provide diagnostics for NRC fleet and recommend maintenance measures ■Draft a work plan initially, provide regular updates on the work progress and submit a final report

Qualifications■At least 5 years experience in vehicle maintenance, preferably senior position ■Experience and knowledge of international NGO fleet structures, objectives and systems ■Good training skills, experience in implementing procedures and working with staff in an empowering and learner focussed way ■Strong leadership and management skills; organised, proactive and outcome-focused

Personal qualities■Willingness and ability to travel and spend substantial periods of time in remote field locations ■Reliable, mature, and able to work independently as well as in a team ■All employees of the Norwegian Refugee Council should be able to adhere to our Codes of Conduct and the four organizational values: Dedicated, innovative, inclusive and accountable

We offer■Commencement: October/ November 2012 ■Contract period: 6 months ■Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions and free housing of moderate standard. Please note that tax fees may occur for some countries. ■Duty station: Aweil field office with frequent travels to Alek. South Sudan is a ‘non-family duty station’. Recreational and social facilities are limited in all NRC locations, and shared accommodation is provided in the NRC Compounds of Aweil, Alek and Juba.
