We are looking for a highly motivated, qualified and experienced clinician to champion our innovative approach to psychological health care by setting the standards and precedents for good practice, whilst being regionally appropriate.

The role will involve consultations such as psychological clearances, counselling, trauma counselling, end of assignment reviews, reporting to organisations and contributing to health information. The role also includes delivering our training programmes and occasional travel within East Africa may be required to deliver training, or to give onsite support to clients on behalf of InterHealth.

The appointed person will have the ability to work with people who are not presenting psychological illness as well as those who do, and have the skills to work respectfully and at depth with those of religious faith.

PART-TIME JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Clinical Psychologist
Tripoli, Libya

The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims (IRCT) is a health-based umbrella organization that supports the rehabilitation of torture victims and the prevention of torture worldwide, with a membership of more than 140 independent rehabilitation centres in more than 70 countries.

We are seeking 2 Part Time Clinical Psychologist, 20 hours per week, to provide mental health services for torture survivors in Libya. The contract is initially for one year, with the possibility of extension depending on funding. This post is based at the rehabilitation centre in Tripoli and will work closely with the Director of Center, other medical specialists and our partner in Libya, the World Organization against Torture (OMCT). Our work in Libya is generously funded by the European Commission and we offer a competitive salary.

This post will appeal to those with a passion for helping survivors of torture to rehabilitate and who are keen to be part of the team building services in Libya to support those directly affected by torture, their families and the communities they live in. You will have an interest in working as part of the global and regional rehabilitation sector. You will bring experience of clinical services in Libya and preferably have experience in the rehabilitation sector. You will be familiar with and keen to interact with colleagues in the Libyan public and private health services sector. You will work in close cooperation with our Project Manager in Tripoli and be actively supported by a team of rehabilitation experts based in Denmark and throughout the MENA region.

Responsibilities:

• Providing clinical psychological individual consultations managing trauma victims in the IRCT health-care facility;
• Participating or organizing therapeutic and psychosocial group activities;
• Performing work by using, developing and/or improving the necessary work tools;
• Working in patient referral systems with other local structures;
• Evaluating individual and collective ex-detainees and IDPs mental health conditions, providing clinical psychological support when needed if possible;
• Examining specific cases and documenting instances of torture and other types of ill-treatment, psychological;
• Ensuring good respect of confidentiality related to patients;
• Ensuring quality clinical follow-up and if necessary referring to other health facilities;
• Working in collaboration with other departments;
• Collecting data from all activities and health indicators, monitoring, analysis and reporting;
• Attending training sessions related to the subject of work and the post;
• Ensuring close cooperation with our partner OMCT in this project to build synergies in our work to ensure the rehabilitation of survivors of torture.

Personal Specifications:

• Psychologists must have clinical experience of two years after graduation degree or Master's degree in clinical psychology;
• Must be qualified as a psychologist (preferably registered in e.g. MRCPsych or another accrediting body);
• Valid license to practice in Libya;
• Good knowledge of clinical management of the most common diagnosis amongst trauma victims such as sleeping disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD and substance abuse;
• Knowledge of methods to prevent vicarious traumatization both at a personal level and team level;
• Experienced in collaborating with both primary and secondary care and willing to assist them in recognizing common mental disorders related to trauma and torture;
• Knowledgeable in the fields of secondary traumatization, child and adolescent psychiatry, rehabilitation psychiatry, forensic psychiatry and old age psychiatry;
• Experience in dealing with national (MoH, primary care, CSO) and experience international partners (WHO, iNGOs, UN, EU, etc.) is desirable;
• Knowledge of the region, particularly of the Libyan context and a proven experience in working in similar environments;
• Prepared to work under pressure and stress in a potentially dangerous environment;
• Experience in working in the field of health and human rights;
• Experience in writing expert opinions for legal purposes;
• Knowledge of the Istanbul Protocol on how to conduct an effective documentation of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment is an asset;
• Willingness to contribute to data collection for furthering the body of evidence;
• Excellent command of Arabic and English.
