Italy: Nutrition Advisor P4, Pakistan

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking qualified individuals for the position of Nutrition Advisor at P4 level, which will be based in our Country Office in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Advise and support Country Office on implementation of the Strategic Plan and Nutrition Policy (2012), and specifically on scaling up nutrition programming through contributing to situation analyses, defining country level strategies, technical review of policy documents;
  • Represent WFP’s mandate, comparative advantage, and approaches at national and interagency technical meetings and advocate for nutrition specific interventions; encourage information exchange to enhance complementarities of strategies; identify potential areas for collaborative approaches and initiatives;
  • Align WFP nutrition activities with national policies and programmes and promote coherence of nutrition approaches, in close coordination and collaboration with UN and other key stakeholders;
  • Provide senior level technical support to strengthen national nutrition governance, including technical review of national policy frameworks development of strategic partnerships, and development and delivery of advocacy strategies;
  • Provide technical and strategic support to update/develop the national standards, protocols and guidelines as required;
  • Contribute to the exchange of knowledge, information, experience in nutrition programming and the development of an agency-wide application with evidence-based programme standards, guidance and tools;
  • Lead, Coordinate, support, and/ or conduct nutrition surveys, effectiveness and efficacy studies, appraisal, evaluation and needs assessment as required by the programme;
  • Assist with qualitative assessments in communities and among households to assess effectiveness of interventions and impact;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of fundraising strategies, proposals, donor reports, and other documents as required;
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education:

  • University degree, preferably at the advanced level, in Nutrition, International Health & Nutrition, Public Health & Nutrition Policy and Management, Family Health & Nutrition, Food Security, Food Technology or other related fields.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years (3 of which international) of postgraduate progressively responsible professional experience in nutrition, public health management, development projects, emergency assistance, and/or operational aspects of national, bilateral or multilateral food assistance;
  • Experience in delivering technical assistance, especially in developing country settings;
  • Experience in survey methodologies, nutrition assessment and relevant data analysis;
  • Food security and multisector programme knowledge and experience are desirable.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of nutrition and/or HIV/AIDS and recent developments in the field;
  • Knowledge of sound nutrition research and assessment methods and monitoring and evaluation standards;
  • Understanding of donor policies, strategies, and programme priorities;
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative health/nutrition survey techniques;
  • Advanced computer skills with at least intermediate proficiency in windows based word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition/public health software (i.e. EPI Info);
  • General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration is highly desirable;
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant field of specialization (nutrition, public health, development or other) is an asset.

Competencies:

  • WFP’s core competencies for professionals include action management, communication skills, teamwork and high standards of ethics and values.

Language:

  • Working knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, French, Spanish, Russian or Chinese) or Portuguese as a WFP working language.

Terms and Conditions

Selected candidates will be employed on a fixed-term contract with a probationary period of one year.

Italy: Programme and Communications Consultant, Readiness Initiative

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill a consultancy position of Programme and Communications Consultant, Readiness Initiative. The position will be based in the organization’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Branch at Headquarters in Rome, Italy for a contract period of 1 – 2 months, with a possibility of extension. The selected candidate may be required to undertake extensive travel.

The objective of the Readiness Initiative is to enhance the speed, relevance, and coherence of emergency response, primarily through the use of disaster management exercises (also called simulations). Project activities will include country level simulations, using actual contingency plans for both members of the humanitarian community and the government.

The Consultant will be responsible for the following key duties:

  • Assist the design, development and implementation of simulations at governmental and Interagency levels;
  • Add context from previous response and programmatic experience;
  • Conduct research and facilitate the development of scenarios;
  • Take part in authoring, editing and quality checking of documentation;
  • Develop and deliver presentations and briefings;
  • Assist facilitation as part of the simulation implementation;
  • Design, produce, and deliver Readiness Initiative multimedia material;
  • Assist debriefing and capturing lessons;
  • Following up upon simulation identified actions;
  • Establish and maintain contact with workshop participants;
  • Liaise and maintain relationships with government NDMO officials;
  • Perform other duties as related.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Education:

  • University degree in social sciences, development studies or other humanitarian related fields;
  • An appropriate mix of vocational training and professional experience may be an acceptable alternative.

Experience & Technical Knowledge:

  • At least 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience in disaster management/ coordination, development projects, emergency assistance, programme analysis, training and development or logistics;
  • Experience of participating in or facilitating humanitarian simulations;
  • Work experience with a broad range of humanitarian actors is desirable;
  • Familiarity with the international humanitarian system;
  • Knowledge of basic desktop multimedia programmes.

Competencies:

  • Strong writing, editing and communication skills including ability to write clear and concise reports;
  • High degree of independent, mature judgement and initiative;
  • Ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks;
  • Ability to maintain relations with a range of actors from different national and cultural backgrounds, including Government officials, UN agencies, local organizations, NGOs and the private sector;
  • Ability to work harmoniously with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Language:#

  • Working knowledge (proficiency/level C) of English;
  • Proficiency in French is highly desirable.
