Background:

Internews® is an international media development organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, D.C. whose mission is to empower people worldwide with the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard.

General Function:

The Director of New Business Development is a senior-level development professional, who under the supervision of the Vice President, will identify new development opportunities among both government and private donors. The position is responsible for overseeing the development of communication materials, concept notes, proposals, and representation of Internews. The position is also responsible for overseeing and strategizing for the refunding of existing programming.

The Director will maintain regular donor correspondence, represent Internews programming, attending meetings, roundtables, and other events and representing Internews at conferences and events with funders and with policy experts both in the US and in the field.

The Director will create and implement a strategy for improved communications on program activities and accomplishments, including laying groundwork for connections with USG and private funders, partners and other collaborators. The position is also responsible for raising the overall profile, funding base and partnerships of Internews’ programming. This includes developing new strategic alliances with like-minded organizations as well as business opportunities with private and bilateral donors.

The Director of New Business Development will track and review U.S. government Requests for Application (RFA), determine strategy for application and design and supervise a team to respond to these proposals.

Scope of Work:

Develop new business opportunities with private and bilateral donors. This includes developing of communication materials, concept notes, proposals, and representation of Internews, as required.Build partnerships with agencies, implementers and funders in the US and elsewhere, establishing Internews as a project implementer.Position Internews as a possible sub-grantee in proposal applications; member of relevant consortia; thought leadership opportunities such as panels, conferences etc. Develop standing MoUs as appropriate.Maintain regular, monthly communications with all funders and supporters to keep them engaged with our efforts.Represent Internews programming before donors in the US and in the field.Review and analyze Requests for Application and help determine potential strategy for application in consultation with Internews program staff. Leading and supervising proposal drafting teams.Write proposals working with relevant Business Managers, Regional Directors, or Country Directors on strategy and budgeting.Commissioning field studies and assessments to assist in the design of new programming.Develop programming in collaboration with field missions to secure funding from LWAs and IQCs and other mechanisms that Internews is a part of.Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.Qualifications:
