Internews® is an international media development organization based in Arcata, CA and Washington, D.C. whose mission is to empower people worldwide with the news and information they need, the ability to connect, and the means to make their voices heard.
General Function:
The Business Development Specialist, under the supervision of the Vice President for Global Development, will identify and pursue new development opportunities among both government and private donors. The position is responsible for overseeing the development of concept notes and proposals. The position is also responsible for strategizing for the refunding of existing programming. The Business Development Specialist will track and review U.S. government, European and Foundation Requests for Application (RFA), determine strategy for application and design and write proposals.
Scope of Work:
Review and analyze Requests for Application and help determine potential strategy for application in consultation with Internews program staffProvide outlines for proposals and proposal designWrite and edit proposalsBuild partnerships with agencies, implementers and funders in the US and elsewhere, establishing Internews as a project implementer.Position Internews as a possible sub-grantee in proposal applications; member of relevant consortia..Maintain regular, monthly communications with all funders and supporters to keep them engaged with our efforts.Lead and supervise proposal drafting teamsLead writer for proposals working with relevant Business Managers, Regional Directors, or Country Directors on strategy and budgetingLead field studies and assessments to assist in the design of new programmingDevelop programming in collaboration with field missions to secure funding from LWAs and IQCs and other mechanisms that Internews is a part ofBuild relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization Qualifications:

5+ years experience in international development, media, and/or nonprofit fields – experience working abroad an asset.Relevant advanced university degreeProposal writing experience – public and privateProven track record of successful business developmentExcellent critical thinking, writing, communications skillsAbility to work with different teams and in different culturesStrong interpersonal and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple, ongoing obligations and assignmentsWillingness to travel frequently, often in difficult conditionsSkilled in MS Office and Excel
