Position Summary

Futures Group is recruiting a Deputy Director FP/RH under the USAID-funded Health Policy Project, who will be responsible for leading the FP/RH technical area, including strategic initiatives, work planning, financial accountability, staffing, and reporting. S/he should also be able to act for and represent the Project Director, as necessary. As a key personnel position, the incumbent will be subject to USAID approval prior to being hired.

Key Responsibilities

Provide leadership for FP/RH technical activities at the global, regional, and country levels, including conceptualizing new activities related to emerging global trends and initiatives related to FP/RH (e.g., FP2020 and the post-2015 development agenda).

Provide technical direction for FP/RH for the design, implementation, and monitoring of workplans and budgets under the project.

Provide strategic direction to ensure integration across FP/RH, HIV/AIDS, and other health domains where appropriate.

Supervise either directly or indirectly technical directors and other staff to carry out activities in the FP/RH portfolio; in so doing, ensure activities are fully accomplished, meet expected technical quality standards, and are delivered on schedule.

Ensure adherence to USAID, project, and corporate policies and procedures governing all technical work.

Liaise with USAID management team on all issues pertaining to FP/RH portfolio, including meetings, workplans, technical updates, and respond to ad hoc technical requests from USAID and other donors and agencies.

Work with the Director, Deputy Directors, and Regional Managers to design and implement strategic approaches to expand project activities to new countries and geographic regions.

Work with other partners on global initiatives related to policy, advocacy, finance, and governance for FP/RH.

Lead and contribute to business development initiatives relevant to policy and advocacy or others areas in line with expertise.

Qualifications

A Master's Degree or higher in public health, business administration, international development, or a related advanced degree.

At least 8 years of experience designing, implementing and managing large, complex public health projects in/for developing countries, of which at least 7 years has been spent addressing policy, advocacy, finance, and governance issues in the health arena.

Extensive experience with FP/RH programs and knowledge of global policy commitments to FP/RH.

Experience implementing a diverse set of programs that address gender and poverty-equity dimensions of FP/RH, with a strong focus on M&E and capacity development.

Strong managerial and organizational skills.

Two years experience living or working in a developing country.

Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral presentation skills in English.

Fluency/proficiency in a second language relevant to a developing country context desirable.

Must be able to travel internationally (economy class) up to 30%.

Physical Demands
