Job Description and Responsibilities:
Grassroots Jerusalem has been working on the further development of our network (www.grassrootsalquds.net) project designed to support East Jerusalem community members, community based organizations and grassroots activists including those agencies and individuals who wish to support them. Our New-Media and Online platform intern will be part of a team working to increase awareness of the challenges that face community members as well as promote community based initiatives in order to bring about a positive change in Jerusalem. The New-Media and Online Platform intern will be responsible for helping to maintain and expand Grassroots Jerusalem’s current online presence, as well as creatively working to increase the user-ability and interactive nature of our network.
Required skills include flash or HTML5 programming, graphic design, audio/video editing, druppal and experience working as part of a creative team. Experience in journalism, blogging, photography and video would be additionally beneficial for this position. This is a great opportunity for someone who is tech-savvy, knowledgeable and interested in Open Source tools and new-media possibilities with community development and social/political change in mind.
While all applications will be considered, preference will be given to those that can either commit to 6 months and/or have prior experience living in the region. Intern selection happens 4 times a year and the start period for each intern cycle is June, September, January, April.
Supervision:
Upon arrival in Jerusalem interns will undergo an orientation designed to introduce them to the layout of the city as well as the technologies essential to their project. The New-Media and Online Platform intern will work closely with our Communications Officer, Advocacy Officer and our Director of Community Assessment and Mapping.
Compensation:
As this is an intern position there is no salary, but the Grassroots Jerusalem staff is committed to helping their interns take advantage of the variety of funding they qualify for through their educational institutions. Interns will be responsible for securing their own housing during their time in Jerusalem. Communication and work related travel expenses will be reimbursed during your stay.
