Save the Children's Role in Regional Processing Centres:Save the Children will provide education, recreation and child protection services to children sent to Nauru by the Australian Government.Our experience shows that sending children to offshore or onshore immigration processing centres threatens their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. But given that the Australian Government is sending children to Nauru and given our mandate to the world’s most vulnerable children, we will work to ensure the best possible conditions and services for children on Nauru.
About the role:The Senior Children’s Recreation Officer will provide leadership and program delivery support to the Children’s Recreational Team in the delivery of an educational - recreation program for children aged 5 – 12 years at the NRPC. The Senior Children’s Recreation Officer will report to the Child and Youth Recreation Manager and work closely with the Children’s Recreation Team, the Youth Recreation Team as well as other Save the Children staff to provide a flexible, individualised program for each child with the aim of helping meet their physical, social, emotional and cultural needs.
About You:
Strong experience in local, consultative, “needs based” planning, design, implementation and evaluation of inclusive programs for all children, including particularly vulnerable groups.Coordinate a variety of activities to address the physical, social, emotional, and cultural needs of all children, including, but not limited to, visual and performance arts, sport, health and personal well-being programs.Ability to plan and deliver Resilience and Leadership Skills Training to Save the Children Australia’s Nauru staff in conjunction with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Manager.Support the delivery of resilience and life skills training to children, young people and parents and carers as required.Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders at the NRPC including security, welfare and health providers.Skills and experience in community engagement with diverse cultural groups, preferably in an international context.Must have significant experience as a Child’s services and/or Recreation Program Manager or Team Leader working with vulnerable children and young people across the age spectrum.Must be experienced in working with children in remote, cross-cultural settings, preferably in a developing country.Knowledge and experience in designing and implementing strategies and programs that engage vulnerable children.Experience leading cross-functional, diverse team members.Qualifications:
Bachelor of social science, human services, children’s services, or recreation.Senior First Aid Certificate.A current bronze medallion, lifesaving qualification and/ or Austswim certification, (highly regarded).Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (highly regarded).
