The opportunity:

We have an opportunity for an experienced Regional Director – Pacific to join the Austraining Team, based in our Suva office. This role is initially offered on a fixed-term contract until the end of June 2015, subject to satisfactory performance and on-going government funding.

The Regional Director (RD) is responsible for the strategic leadership and management of all Austraining International (AI) programs/projects and activities in the Pacific region, ensuring that all financial, programs/projects and business targets are met. Reporting to the International Operations Manager based in the Australian Head Office, this position is responsible for the overall performance of the region. The scope of existing projects focuses on the delivery and successful implementation of the Australian Government-funded Australian Volunteers for International Development (AVID) program. Current Austraining countries of operation in the Pacific region are Fiji, Vanuatu, Samoa, Tonga and Kiribati.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining Austraining’s strategic and operational plans for the region, and contributing to the development of higher-level program/project, business development and corporate strategies;
  • Leading and managing In-Country Management teams and regional office staff and activities in the region;
  • Managing the Austraining regional office in Suva, including office registration and implementation of effective and efficient office management systems;
  • Ensuring efficient and effective program/project delivery in the region that exceeds KPIs and client expectations;
  • Financial management and reporting, including developing and managing regional budgets;
  • Developing & maintaining strong working relationships with local partner organisations;
  • Recruiting and managing local staff and sub-contractors, if required;
  • Liaising with a wide range of clients and stakeholders, including volunteer and award holder host organisations, client representatives and partner government representatives;
  • Evaluating program outcomes against agreed performance targets and AI’s monitoring & evaluation framework;
  • Ensuring effective implementation of Risk Management, incident management, emergency response, and safety and security strategies in the region;
  • Developing and maintaining quality management systems and processes, aligned with Austraining’s relevant policies and procedures.
