HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Our work in over 75 countries is strengthened through our global network of like-minded organisations – the only one of its kind in the world. Since January 2013, HelpAge has been working in partnership with Handicap International on an Inclusion Programme that works with humanitarian responders to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches older people and people with disabilities – two vulnerable groups that are often neglected in humanitarian response.
The Health Coordinator will implement the healthcare activities defined in the project partnership with Médecins du Monde (MDM), AMEL, YMCA Lebanon, and the American University of Beirut, in coordination with MDM Health Coordinator and HelpAge Regional Health Coordinator in Lebanon, and HelpAge Programme Manager in London. The Health Coordinator will provide technical support to the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified medical practitioner (doctor, nurse, public health specialist or equivalent) with a good clinical knowledge of chronic diseases and older people’s health needs. Also important demonstrated experience in public health and experience of community based health programmes. Clear understanding of the humanitarian environment and the issues facing implementation of humanitarian projects is essential for this role.
